Smile Hello all, New to the forum, New to hammies

Hello, I just got my hamster, Bulma, the day before yesterday. I got her from craigslist for free and had a cage all set up with a hideout, chew blocks, lots of bedding, wheel, food and water and treats hidden all over for her. She is 6 weeks old, and I'm not 100% sure of her breed, she is either 1/4 or 1/2 syrian, that much I know. The breed of the mother was unknown and they weren't sure if her father was full syrian.

Moral of the story, I didn't know I was getting a hamster who could potentially be fairly large. She is already too big for her cage. So tomorrow after work I am picking up a bin and attempting to make a bin cage. (I will be making a separate thread of course, I just feel like it is important to mention here that I intend to get her a proper home ASAP)

When she and I get more acquainted with each other I shall share lots of pictures, maybe I can get help identifying her breed at some point Any and all advice and help is welcome in my hammy journey with Bulma, any questions, feel free to ask! Tomorrow when I am well rested I will attempt to attach the only two pictures I have of her so far, as she is really such a pretty girl it would be a shame not to!

Syrians can only breed with Syrians. So your hamster is a Syrian.

Agreed with CMB Syrians are a species, just like there are various dwarf species...

So she's 100% Syrian

Glad your upgrading her cage. Look forward to pics!

Hi and welcome! As was already mentioned, syrians can only breed with syrians. It doesn't sound like the people you got her from were familiar with the different types of species though, so it's possible she isn't syrian at all! I'm sure if you post pictures of your new little one, people here can help you identify her species

I have no idea if she is or isn't then, because all I know is what I was told when I picked her up, but maybe some pictures will help I managed to snap a few when I moved her into a 100qt bin cage I made today. So, picture time!

Thank you! We are quite fond of her here We have been doing a lot of research to see what she needs now, how her needs will change as she grows, and how to be the best hammie mom and dad we can be. It helps to know what type she is to further our research!
