Default We are getting a hamster.

Thank you to people who suggested Alphabet Hamstery. One of their hamsters has recently given birth and we will be collecting our baby at the end of June all being well.

Think I am going to get the Savic Hamster Heaven cage as it looks huge and comes with lots to do. Am going to have to make sure that whatever cage I get is suitable cat proof though as my gorgeous Norty Tortie cat is a bit of a hunter!

My son (age 6) has chosen two names - drum roll ...........

For a girl "Mrs Potts" (not a clue what that name's all about)
For a boy "Little Hammy until he's big and then we'll just call him Hammy".

So - two belters as names. Personally I am all for a female called "Mrs Potts" (fabulously off the wall name) but being a boy he wants - well - a boy hamster. So hammy it will probably be.

I have a hamster heaven each for my two and we also have 4 cats (all basic moggy killing machines ) and they seem to be pretty cat proof, however we do tie the cages down just in case the cats managed to knock them off the sideboard, but they got bored with the hamsters pretty quicky really.

Yep! Cage is gonna have to be cat proof. Drusilla (resident Norty Tortie) returned home this afternoon with a sparrow (alive). After I had backed Drusilla into a corner and threatened her with all manner of horrors (the worst being that I'd go back to Sainsbury's Basics Cat food instead of Whiskas "Oh so Meaty/Fishy") she dropped the sparrow which I rescued. I took it to the garden and after a few moments it flew up into the tree. So a lucky escape and still very much alive

May have to bolt the cage down and equip the hamster with some cat torturing devices.
