Hello everyone! I am a new owner of a syrian hamster, he is with me 3 days and iam thinking of what does a hamster eat, and what can he eat rarely as a treat, so far I was feeding him hamster muesli, cucumber, boiled fish (unsalted, plain.), and maize. What else can a hamster eat and how often? Thank you.

If you have a look through the feeding/nutrition section of the forum you'll find lots of idea on what to feed.
The main thing is to start with a really good hamster mix (or muesli) these are often a bit low in protein especially for a young ham that is still growing so you do need to give some extras, a little plain cooked fish is ok but not really a natural food for them but you can also give plain cooked chicken, a little boiled or scrambled egg, tiny pieces of plain mild cheese (more as a rare treat than a supplement) if your ham will eat them freeze dried mealworms are good too, various nuts or seeds like monkey nuts, a little brazil or walnut, sunflower or pumpkin seeds make good supplements & can be fed as treats too, only a little now & then, everything in moderation!
It's good to feed a small piece of fresh veg daily too but begin slowly until your hamster gets used to it, maybe just every few days to begin with then gradually increase to daily, once your ham gets used to daily veg try to give a good variety as this is an important part of their diet but again something you can hand feed if you want to give treats.

You can find more in HC's food section, but I've found that along with fruit and veggies, hard boiled, plain egg works quite nicely.
