Hii from me and Sakura!

Hiya, I'm Demi and i got a hamster from pets at home last friday.Shes grey and white so i thought she looked peaceful for some reason, so i chose the name Sakura for her.It means cherry blossom in japanese.My brother wanted to call her Yoshi from mariokart and my mum wanted to call her princess.I thought princess was to girlygirl though .Shes been putting on alot of weight recently but she doesnt eat to much, are syrian hamsters normally pregnant from pets at home??I've had a few hamsters before from small petshops.the first hamster was called speedy(reeeeal original :P )and he escaped in our neighbors car she lives in seaton, 2 miles from me and im friends with her daughter so luckily she brought him back for us.I was only about 5 then and i can't remember much.Then we had the "mummy hamster"who had babies.Sakura lives in a pennine cage until i save up enough for a hamster heaven, i have 40quid now so 40 more to go.She's currently exploring my brothers desk while im typing.her fave things are the sunflowerseeds in her food and shes just learnt how to use her wheel.

Hello and welcome Demi!

I'm not sure about Sakura being pregnant.

They are sexually mature at about 3-6 weeks so it IS possible.

Usually petshops will *try to* separate the hammys into male and female groups in separate cages so that this wont happen, but they do make mistakes.


Hopefully someone who breeds hamsters will answer after me and tell you the signs to look out for.

Hi Demi, welcome to the forum! Your new hamster could be putting on weight simply because she's a growing baby. They are usually around 6 weeks old from pet shops and they do have some growing to do. It is common for hamsters to come home pregnant though. Just keep an eye on her.

It is not that common for P@H hams to be pregnant but still possible. she may just be growing. Give her plenty protein like egg & chicken and check her tummy to see if you see nipple lines.
