Smile A tiny hello from the little one

Hello everyone!

I just signed up to this forum an that is thanks to my new little obsession - my dwarf hamstie Pebbles. I got her 2 days ago and already love her so much. She is such a sweetie.

She is my first hamster ever and I signed up to learn more and share experience with you guys. I must admit, I am having hard time resisting to disturb her since I read that the first days need to be very calm for her to settle in her new home. She is just too cute. haha

I have attached the best picture I can provide right now since all her attention is mainly about being safe in her nest, but we managed to befriend the toilet paper roll.

I can't wait to share our journey with you guys, but one question: I would like to make sure what kind of a dwarfie she is. She kinda looks like a Winter White, but since I am a newbie to this, maybe you could help.

Thank you and I hope you are having a great day!

Pebbles and Stefany

Hey!

Pebbles is super cute! We just got a new Syrian hamster on Monday, so we're also going through the similar timid time as you. I'm still waiting to get a picture of ours!

Hello! Pebbles is very cute. It's so hard to resist them, isn't it? But let her set the pace. If you got pebbles from a pet shop, she will be a hybrid (a mix of Campbells and winter white) and hybrids are prone to diabetes so avoid fruit, yoghurt drops and other sugary treats.

She's a very very pretty girl :3 welcome to the forum both of you!

Agreeing with Velma on both counts, she will be a little hybrid so minimise the sugar in her diet and see if you can get a dwarf specific hamster mix for her. Do some research on signs of diabetes (basically drinking a ton of water is the main one to look out for) just so you're ready just in case! And slower is definitely better as far as taming goes, start by giving her a little tissue with your scent on it (stuff it in your bra!!) and see if she takes that to make her nest with and maybe start talking to her softly so she gets used to you being around her cage before you start introducing The Hand and the treats it brings

Thank you for the warm welcome! I will definitely try your suggestions and about the paper tissue - I already tried that and she covers up her nest with it and sleeps on it.

I was just wondering - today I bought some pumpkin seeds in local market. I looked out for the ones that were described as super ecological and so on, but they have 0.02 salt in them. Can I still use them as an occasional treat?

And the same with raisins. I got some but I read that those can be toxic, so I guess it's better to leave them out of her diet.. ?

Thank you so much!

Welcome to HC both of you!

What a beauty you got there! I love her colouring! Can't wait to see more of her

I can't really add anything as velma and shannon have said it all.

Hi & welcome to you & Pebbles, she is just gorgeous!

Velma & Shannon have given you the best advice but if there's anything you're unsure about with a hybrid diet or anything else just ask & we should be able to help out.
