Back Again!!!!
Heya Everyone
A lot maybe has changed since I was last on here I had to re home my babies Rodney, Pie Ella and Moomin 😭 but all 3 went to a lovely lady and her daughter whom I'm sure took great care of them. Miss them all still.
I recently acquired a hamster from Jollyes which my son fell in love with he's called Luke Jr. My son named him after himself lol I was told he is a Russian Dwarf but people apparently get the Campbell's and winter whites mixed up so I was wondering if anyone can help me identify which one he is?
Pics to follow
Thanks
Vicki

When their hybrids are they escape artists like the winter whites and need a tank cage?

Re: Back Again!!!!
Welcome back He is a lovely little boy!
Most likely a hybrid as said, though he looks closest to a sapphire winter white.
They can get quite big and chubby and suitable for bar cages when they are fully grown. But as a baby a plastic tank tends to be the safest option x

Re: Back Again!!!!
Welcome back & congrats on your lovely new fluff
None of my hybrids have been remotely interested in escaping & have all lived happily & uneventfully in narrow barred cages!

Re: Back Again!!!!
lol! no, nowhere near as big as a syrian, you do need to watch the chubbiness though as hybrids can be prone to diabetes, so no sweet foods, sugars & stick to veg rather than fruits.
Hybrids vary a lot in size & weight, mine have all been between about 54-60g when fully grown.
I've never had a bar chewing dwarf, maybe he needs a whimzee to get his teeth into! He does sound very sweet.

Is there any wee treats you would recommend? as he eats literally everything he has back to nature substrate and even that gets eaten as he doesn't seem to be much of a pouch stuffer
He also loves to be outta his cage but not always to be cuddled he loves to explore probably should have been named colombus lol

Re: Back Again!!!!
I tend to stick to natural foods as treats for mine, fresh veg & extra seeds, things like millet, hemp, flax, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, just not too many! They get the occasional monkey nut too which keeps them busy for a while, mealworms make a good treat too & simple healthy things like the oat bites from zooplus.
He sounds healthy enough with all that exploring, quite a little character
