Default Hello from Chomp and I! :D

Hello everyone (:

My name is Emma and I have owned several Syrian hamsters in the past, unfortunately my last hamster Tiny passed away just under a year ago now and I decided that I wouldn't own any more for quite a while.
And then on Friday my partner decided he would like to buy me another for an early Easter present! I was over the moon and of course we set out that day to a a pet shop not that far away which I bought my two previous hammies from.
I bought everything i'd need and paid for that so we could throw it in the car and go off to the reptile houses and choose a Hamster, unfortunately when we got inside they only had some cute little robos.
In the end we drove about for a bit trying different pet stores and went into the Pets@Home store where I quickly quizzed the store workers on how old, what gender and if they'd been handled at all.
I ended up picking Chomp! a 9 week old baby boy (: I'm unsure as to what colour he is but here's a picture!

I'm a little worried that I may not be able to tame him as unfortunately he managed to squeeze out a gap in the cage and I worried and was unsure about how to pick him up as he squeezed out my hands on both attempts so I picked him up with my boyfriends t-shirt and popped him back in his cage and has been jumpy around us since then. I left him all day yesterday to get over the slight shock but i'm worried he may be the same tonight.

Ah, i'm banging on a bit! just one last thing to ask, has anyone ever bought a hamster from p@h before? I'm wondering if they're easy to tame.

Well, that's us then!

Welcome to you
Chomp is very cute.
I think most hamsters can be tamed. He's probably just a tiny bit scared at the moment and when they are young hamsters do jump around a bit. I had one jump out of my hands and then proceeded to jump around the lounge whilst I tried to re-catch her. I don't know who was more upset, her or me.
Let chomp settle for a day or two and then start speaking to him and getting him use to your voice and scent. There is a helpful taming guide on the wiki which will help you I am sure.

Ah, thankyou!
Me & Chomp feel most welcome (:
I think I shall give the bathtub trick a shot once i've got him a bit more calm.
Can't wait to be able to handle him!
It will surely all be worth it once i've spent lots of time with him.

Hello and welcome.
P@H hamsters have never been handled so it may take a wee while to tame Chomp but I am sure with time and patience he will soon be nice and friendly. It is important not to strees them when they are first new to you so make sure you give hime lots of peace to settle and gentle taming.
Chomp is an Umbrous Golden banded hamster I would say and very cute indeed

Ah both me and the boyfriend thought he may be Umbrous.
We had a go at handling him earlier but didn't want to upset him too much so spent maybe only 15 minutes having a go at scooping him up unfortunately my boyfriend Ben was bitten on the thumb however it did not draw blood so perhaps this was just some sort of warning to let us know he was scared?
Whilst it was not much we did manage to hold him if only for a minute or so before he hurried off to explore some more. He seems to be off to a good start!
Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

EDIT:
Here are some more photos of the little fella.

He's so cute.

Welcome, chomp is very cute! We got Custard from P@H a couple of months ago and we are still trying to tame him too, although he got wet tail but thankfully recovered so we aren't expecting him to be tamed quickly. Still not been bitten yet though thankfully lol!

Welcome to the forum - Chomp is gorgeous! He looks so small I got William from P@H and he was already tamed. He was 7 weeks (I believe) and he was already tame, so either someone there tamed him, or he's just laidback

My little Chomp is 9 weeks old and is extremely tame for a hammy that hasn't been handled at all! I've had him since Friday and already I can pick him up.
Lucky for us they aren't too difficult to handle! (:
William sounds lovely also!
