A bit rusty on hamster owning
Hey my names Mel, long time no see on hamster central!
Just wanted to introduce myself and new furball Tim, he's a 9 week old syrian and I've had him for nearly a week now Also, he is dove/mink banded? (if anyone knows which please let me know, his parents were red eye cream x cream banded if that helps)
I haven't owned hamsters in over a year now since going the university. Though as you can see from my signature, there has been quite a few in the past. They are sadly no longer with me, but I'm so excited to be a hamster owner again!
I'm feeling a little rusty on everything, so I'm sure I'll be getting lots of tips from here and catching up on all things new in the hamster world
And this is his current cage, a gabber rex (don't worry the silent spinner is only temporary)

Re: A bit rusty on hamster owning
He's probably mink - Does he have slight cream rings around his eyes? It's hard to tell from the picture. He also looks more brown than the grey-looking dove colour He's lovely!
Welcome back to HC! It's good to have you back!

Re: A bit rusty on hamster owning
Thankyou He doesn't have eye rings, so i originally thought dove, though he does have one orange splodge which made me think mink!
Hes only from pet shop parents, so hes likely to be a poor example of either, which I think is why I'm struggling to tell
Attached a full body *though blurry cause hes so fidgety) shot if that helps x

Re: A bit rusty on hamster owning
Hm, I'd still say he's more of a mink than dove. I think only time will tell! if he gets anymore orange/brown in colour then he's most likely a mink. Myrcella is a mink, she's almost 6 months old, Here's a picture of her for you to compare -
This is her currently -
This was her at 5 - 6 weeks old -

Re: A bit rusty on hamster owning
Tim is gorgeous. Love his cage set up! How high is the Gabber Rex inside? I assume similar to the Zoozone and Maxi Duna. Just wondering what wheel you are planning on getting (I seem to obsessed with wheels lol). I guess a 27cm wodent would fit well.
