Hellooo
Hello to everyone, from the Philippines.
My name is Inah. I've always wanted a pet since I was a kid but my mom was against it for whatever reasons she had. This year though, I need to be away from home to prepare for my licensure examination, which means freeeeedom yey (even for just few months). And yes, that's when my baby lovey hammie entered my life. I really had no intentions to get myself a pet for the time being because I had my mind set on my current undertakings. But then this roommate of mine bought fishes and she set them up on her bedside table. I got so jealous lol. It sparked up my childhood frustation of having a pet, so just after a week or two, there's already a hamster sleeping in his cage beside my bed. After a few weeks, I brought my hamster home to my parents mainly because I don't trust my roommates enough alone with him.
My parents didn't know I got myself a hamster until he was right before their eyes. To my surprise, they are very fond of the new furry member of the family. Especially my mom. I thought she'd be mad but nah. I think she changed her mind about pets when she saw the charming cutiepie.
I am home only during weekends and my father takes care of my hamster for me. The two of them are getting along really well before I could even tame the hammie myself. Pft. But other than that, I know I made the right decision to leave my hamster with my parents for a while even if it means being away from him Three more weeks, and after that, we'll have more playtime!
I think I've said too much for an introduction
Anyway, I'd like to thank you guys. I've been here for more than a month and I have learned so much about hamsters and how to keep them healthy and happy from reading the threads here. Again, thank you--from me and P2, the hammie.

Re: Hellooo
Hi Inah and P2, welcome to the forum. So glad that you've finally been able to find yourself a furry friend and really pleased that he is getting on so well with your parents, particularly your dad. Our little fluffy critter have a habit of finding a way into hearts.
Look forward to seeing some photos, when you have some time.

Re: Hellooo
Thank you! He is indeed adorable. But very difficult to tame. He doesn't like much interaction and would rather keep his cuteness to himself. But I won't give up on this darling hehe

Re: Hellooo
Hi Cheekytita and welcome to HC. Why the name P2? Does it have a meaning?
I'm not surprised your mum really likes him, he's so fluffy.
A way to get him familiar with you is the tissue trick, stuff a load of tissues or toilet paper up your sleeves and leave for a couple off hours and then put in his cage. Curiosity will have him sniffing it and even better if he uses it in his bedding, this gets him familiar with your smell. Repeat it several times.

Re: Hellooo
I was reading through my subscribed threads (bc boredom) when I realized I haven't answered, nor read, Thin Lizzy's reply?
Why P2? It doesn't have a meaning, really. One of the subjects in the board exam was P2, short for Practical Accounting II. It's a killer subject lol. Since I got P2 during my review for my final exam ever, I thought why not give him a name that relates to it. So yeah, I got two P2's in my mind that time... One that gave me sooo much stress and the other relieved it by just being adorable hehe Information overload vs. Cuteness overload.
