Default Hello there

Hi I just joined here, I found this site through another rodent-related forum.

I currently own 3 Roborovski's and one Syrian, all girls. They are all lovely with lots of character!

This time last year I did have 5 Robos, but I lost two this year. They are still young only 1 year old. The first one I don't know what happened, I found her half eaten. They don't fight (since I removed the bully) and all looked healthy up until then.

The second I lost just today. When I found her body, I discovered she had a massive lump on her belly. It's as though this lump appeared overnight as she seemed fine up until I found her this morning. I handle her every week and check them all over at cage cleaning time. It looked like a tumour but they surely don't appear overnight and so big? I have a picture but it's not something I want to display on a family forum (actually I wanted my vet to see it to see if she had any ideas on what happened). I wish I caught it or seen some kind of sign earlier, at least I could have gotten the vet to make her passing easier. This girl was the bully mentioned in the previous paragraph, she lived on her own and seemed to enjoy having her own space. She was never handleable unlike the others though, and she was a biter. She also had a spinning problem but it was only an occasional thing. Poor girl didn't had much luck.

My remaining three are doing great. These girls are very tame and easy to handle. They like to climb about my hands and nibble my fingers!

My Syrian girl is really cute. Her ears are huge! She is an albino with a lovely silky coat unlike all other hamsters I have seen as well. She is quite odd looking for a hamster but in an extremely cute way! She is fairly new to the household so I haven't figured out a name for her yet.

Along with the hammies I also have 10 Rats, 4 Ferrets and 3 Border Collies.

Welcome to the forum. You certainly have a large family of furry friends.
Sorry to hear of your loss. I think the lump may have been an abcess rather than a tumour though some tumours are very agressive and grow rapidly. We lost a syrian last year who developed a huge ovarian tumour in two weeks. May she rest in peace.
Looking forward to hearing more about your pets on the forum

Yes, welcome! I'm also sorry to hear of your loss, and it sounds like you have some lovely pets. I also have a Syrian and she's very cute, she has her own little character and I'm very fond of her.

Look forward to seeing some photos of your brood

Thanks, the remaining three Robs are doing fine. I love them so much though. Even though you can't sit and cuddle them, my girls are friendly enough to sit on my hand and climb my arms, and they are amazing to watch.

I am hoping to find a cage for them so that they get more running space, toys and I can see them better. At the moment they are in a Duna Fun although they love it, you can't see them very well and there's no room for enough toys. I am in love with the Duna Multy so looking into getting one of these.
