A big hello from sunny Scotland!
Yes, the sun shines today and I have washing out for the first time this year!
I'm Beckie and I'm 37! Mummy to Thomas (9 next month) and Erin (5). I'm originally from Wokingham in Berkshire and moved to Dumbarton, Scotland when Thomas was 3 months old! My partner moved to Scotland from Derby when he was 9 as his dad worked for the Navy. We actually met on-line in a sci-fi chat room on Yahoo and realised his best friend livid in Bracknell. We got engaged November 2004 and bought our house last January.
Both of us grew up with Gerbils. I've also had Guinea Pigs and one Hamster! He's also had Snakes, Rabbits, Turtles and Dogs. Our daughter loves Dogs! Our son on the other hand, runs away from ones he doesn't know!
Anyway, we decided to buy a Hamster as our first family pet. We originally wanted 2 Syrians but I didn't realise they couldn't be housed together. Then our boy came up for sale on the local Facebook pets page. His previous owner had been bought him that day and she felt that she wouldn't be able to give him the attention he needs as she had 3 Greyhounds! So 2 days later (last Wednesday 11th) I went to get him. She hadn't given him a name.
I hadn't told the kids I was getting him so you can imagine their delighted wee faces when they spotted the cage! I wanted to call him Oreo but the names suggested by the kids were Lucky, Fluffy and Fighter! Fluffy was decided on Friday. I think I'll just call him Fluffy-Oreo!
This forum is invaluable! I never realised he was in too wee a cage, so will be getting him an Alaska cage!

Fluffy is totally adorable! Just look at that little face! So trusting! He clearly feels secure on whoever's knee that is. He looks an interesting colour too. Is there such a think as a black banded hamster (asking the 'type' experts there)?

That's Erin he's on. She actually managed to sit still for more than 30 seconds, lol. I'll see if I can get a pic of the length of him tonight. I'm sure there's grey on him as well.

Oh gosh. He is just adorable! Such a lovely little face. <3
I've had the Alaska cage for a week and I love it. Such a bargain for a cage that size and quality. Great access too with the big front door. You'll not regret it. (:

Welcome Beckie! Fluffy-Oreo is 1) really cute 2) a great name 3) a very happy chappy by the looks of it!
My OH is from Dumbartonshire, over by the Campsies. Always good to see more Scots represented here! Let us know how you get on with the Alaska, it looks a great cage & good value.

Re: A big hello from sunny Scotland!
Thanks guys. The Alaska arrived on Saturday although I've had to hide it from DP until I get chance to build it and decide where it's going. Man it's huge, lol. Hopefully tomorrow as he's working from home today!

Hello and welcome!
Fluffy-Oreo is super cute! My syrian Marley is the same, he won't sit still for more than 10 seconds!
