Default Hey I'm a noobie

Hi, I'm new here and I have one white winter Russian dwarf hamster called Walter I have had him since June 2014 and he is very healthy.
I am deciding to make him some toys out of toilet paper rolls and I am wondering if it is safe for them to have toilet paper and also what toys I can make from the toilet roll ( I have already made a few toys for him: a cracker and a circular thing that has treats inside). Please let me know if you have any ideas of what I should make and if it is dangerous please tell me. Thanks

Hi Paul

Welcome to the forum to you and Walter.

Egg boxes make good toys too, I gave one of mine an egg box for the first time a week ago and she has been having such a good time hiding in it, chewing the insides to make it "just right for her". I turned the box upside down and cut out the tops of two opposite corners to give access in and out.

It's now her second home!

Have fun making new toys for Walter.

Tubes are fine, most cardboard is. I'm guessing you've seen the ErinsHamsters youtube about tube toys ....I found both hams love to wander about in cardboard things, and if they don't like a corner or wall, they just chew a door in it, heh. Compartmented take out Chinese boxes, beverage holders, tubes, boxes, all sorts of things seem to interest them even more than the store bought toys.....

By egg cartons, you mean the cardboard type? I've avoided styrofoam egg packages.....is that okay too? It amazing what degree of interest a hamster can put into something like a beverage holder or an egg carton with treats hidden inside....they're easy to please generally speaking....lol

Yes, Skeever, I was referring to the cardboard egg boxes. I would also avoid styrofoam, not sure that they are safe for chewing....??

Welcome to the forum both of you I haven't been here long myself but it's a great place here and I've had lots of good tips about everything hamster related including making toys for them

I had a go at making some cardboard toys for my hams a little while ago. I got four circular pieces of cardboard and made three cuts into one, one cut into the other three and slotted them together to make little tables. It took me a while to work out how to make it work properly but they love them now All mine love a bit of plain white unscented toilet paper too as the other members have been suggesting

Hello and welcome. I am useless at making anything unless it is knitted, so I look forward to seeing the toilet roll creations!
