Default 'Ello!

Hi there,
My names Grace and tomorrow I am getting a Syrian hamster! A rescue girly currently called Harmony but will be changed to Pika (short for pickachu). I'm 19 and currently training to be a vet nurse. I used to have rats however after the last ones had gone I couldn't bring myself to have any more.
I had a bit of a break for a while but need a little furry in my life!!!

The only think I am a little stuck on currently is the cage. I can't have a massive one but definitely a bigger than minimum size, what would you suggest? Also I'm not sure how long this girl has been in rescue and I doubt she had been handled since being put in there, how long would you suggest to leave her in the cage to acclimatise before attempting taming?

Thank you all so much!
Grace

Hello welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your new hammy, my partners Syrian is currently in a Ferplast Duna Multy - its a nice sized enclosure and is on one level so is easy to clean. I think you can pick them up on Amazon at the moment for around £36.

Ive left our hammies for at least 48 hours to let them settle before interacting with them/thinking about taming ^__^

Hi & welcome to the forum
I only have dwarfs so I'm no expert on cages for syrians but I do think the hamster heaven is a really nice cage, if you read through some of the cage reviews you might get a better idea of what would suit both your ham & the space you have.
With any ham I think it's best to leave them for 24 hours to settle but after that you really have to take it at their pace & see how they settle in.
Look forward to hearing more about your ham when you get her

Unfortunately the rescue hamster was gone when I got there! But this little lady wasn't! I'm torn between Pika or Honey as a name! Little worries about her at the moment as she seems a little shaker and snuffly. But I'll keep an eye on it, could it just be first day stress?

The cage she is currently in is purely a stand in until I find a better cage fairly soon!

She is a long hair but I'm not sure what colour you would call her? She also doesn't seem to be eating yet but again I'm putting that down to new home!

I'll be looking into those cages! Thank you!

Both of those names are precious, though I would personally go with Honey .
As to what color she is, she looks like a cream

I'm sure she's just settling in, she looks bright enough in the photo, & very cute
I agree Honey suits her.

Pikachu has been the main name, but she is nicknamed honey! She's such a sweetie haha she seemed to come into herself last night, tearing about the cage sniffing and running on the space wheel thing
