Default Hello from Liverpool, UK!

Hi I'm Ellie! New to HC but not new to hamsters! I live in Liverpool, UK!

Previously had two hamsters; Ivy when I was about 8/9. She was a grumpy Syrian who mellowed out in her old age. Sadly died shortly after having a tumour removed from her pouch. She died snuggled up in my arms.

When I was a teen I had a sparky little boy Syrian called Munchie, who really was so calm and tolerant of everything. He did like to chew everything though! He escaped once in the night and rather than explore the house he climbed into bed with me and woke me up when his whiskers were tickling my nose!! He was a cutie. He sadly died of old age (2.5 years) again he died snuggled up in my arms.

Now in my twenties I have a cheeky Syrian called Zwarte Piet (Dutch name-my boyfriend named him!) Got him to cuddle after my brother died suddenly. He is a cutie, but he is an escape artist!!! He's about a year old now and recently had a 2 week escape in a friends attic while I was away on holiday. He's also escaped in the wall of my bathroom before and has tried to get under the kitchen a few times! He's a bit more shy than my previous hams, but he is friendly and completely tame. He is most confident around me, but around other people he still gets a bit jittery/freezes a lot. Never bitten anyone which I am quite proud of. He really is a sweetie!

So yeah, that's me and my ham!

Hello Ellie_Bob89. Welcome to Hamster Central. Pets can often help people cope with the loss of a loved one and it sounds as if Zwarte Piet is helping you do that quite well. Your little furry sounds like a right character and I would love to see this little one.

Hi Ellie - welcome to the HC forum. Lovely to hear that Zwart Piet has brought you lots of comfort and also keeps you entertained with his Houdini impersonations. I hope that you will be able to post some pictures so that we can see your cheeky hammie, as long as he doesn't hide from the camera.
