Default Re: Hi. Need help sexing and possibly identifying dwarf species of two new hamsters

Understood. Tomorrow I'll be going to the pet store and getting what I need. I wish I could do it sooner but it really isn't an option. Thank you all for assuring me that this isn't really my fault but I still feel like a heel.

Now I need a bit more advise. If they are indeed two different sexes that means more than likely the pet store did a very poor job of sexing whichever one is actually female is more than likely pregnant. If you could point me towards accurate information on how to help and what to expect I would be vary grateful.

My other issue is as I mentioned I would really prefer not to have them be alone. There were others robos there that are probably still available. Should I get my little robo a companion? If I wan't worried about another sexing mix up I probably would.

Again thank you guys so much.

The pregnancy issue is thankfully not relevant here, the only hamster hybrid so far is the Campbells and Winter White.

It will likely be possible to pair your robo with another little one as he is still young, but the rule is always only ever have as many hamsters as you are prepared to keep separately. Teenage boy robos can be very tricky, and although there are things that can be done to increase the chances of them staying together into adulthood, there is never a guarantee. Really up to the age of six months you are dealing with hormonal hams, and with boys this can go on till 18 months when testosterone naturally begins to decline. Boys will not ever live together in the wild, so it is no surprise that they can struggle as pets.

It is of course your decision, but hopefully that will help you make an educated one

Thanks again. Tub cages complete slipped my mind. I went looking around the house and think I can jury-rig something that will work part time.

Just wanted to check. The consensus is #1 is a boy and # 2 a girl?

Hated separating them. They were curled up together in the house.

No question, I have sexed many little ones, and you get used to what to look for. You have done the right thing

My first thought on seeing the pics, is that the first one is deffo a robo, and looks to be male, the second is a dwarf and female
