Re: Help, I don't know what to do.
Hey summerdaze, sorry your introduction to hamsters has been quite so traumatic. I get allergies too & can't tolerate wood shavings in the house at all. I use Megazorb which is similar to Carefresh for substrate & I'm ok with that. You have to buy it in a really big sack though so probably not the best idea for you if you have limited space!
What cage are you keeping your hamster in? Space makes a really big difference as far as biting the bars is concerned. Do you ever get your hamster out for a play? Is she tame enough to pick up? She's very pretty, what's her name?
Did you know you can feed little bits of fresh veg too so your hamster has a bit of variety along with her mix. Mine really like cucumber, peppers & brocolli
Best wishes,
shiny

Hi shiny,
She's now in a rabbit cage. I'll take a pic. Think it's a "zoozone" cage. Her name is Hammy. Last night I gave her some celery. I'll try a different veg tomorrow.
Thanks HollyHamster.
I'll post some more pics!

Sorry shiny, I missed your earlier question. Yeah, I get her out each day. I can pick her up.

Re: Help, I don't know what to do.
Hey summerdaze, Hammy is so cute .
I know some people put mesh over the bars of the grill at the top to make sure the hamster can't squeeze out if they manage to climb up there. There are threads about meshing in the housing bit.
Are you getting on a bit better now your allergy has stopped? Hammy sounds like a friendly hamster if you can get her out & play with her already. She would probably be a bit more relaxed if she had a few more things in her cage to hide in or play with. You can make toys out of kitchen roll middles or egg boxes & hide treats inside so she would have to work to find them & it would keep her occupied a bit.
Best wishes,
shiny

Re: Help, I don't know what to do.
Hammy is gorgeous!! She does sound like she's a friendly ham too, since you can pick her up with no problem. I hope the sound problem is sorted out now and it would be nice for you to keep her.

Re: Help, I don't know what to do.
Hi squishyhammy - I'm glad that you managed to stop your allergy and thank you for what you said.
shiny - I'm looking into mesh. I want some that she couldn't get her paws around because I think she'll hang off the top from it. I looked at the stuff B&Q has but even the small metal one I think she'd hang off. Last night I was on the laptop and I heard a noise and looked across and she'd climbed on top of the water bottle (literally, she was totally on top of it rearing up on her hind legs) then onto the roof of the ZooZone. I moved the waterbottle a bit (it's in a yellow cube) as it was right by the side and then she climbed onto the cube again then the top of the water bottle and she stood up and jumped towards the edge of the roof but she fell into the substrate (which luckily is deep now). I moved the cube again and she can't do it now, but I still want to mesh the roof. If she does get out, this room is a plain rectangular room where the worst she can do is chew things but I don't want her to jump off the ZooZone.
I've put more stuff in her cage - I'll take a pic.
AliKati - Thank you. I love her so much and I can't believe I was going to give her back. I guess that's what sleep deprivation does to you!
