Im glad you sorted out the allergic reactions, it difficult having animals then not knowing to do, my niece is chronic asthmatic and they had a kitten bought in and after a week my niece ended up hospitalised, when the dr ask so many question then he said have you cats and they said yeah we just got the kitten then he said she cant go home yet till you have to get rid of the kitten so i had a phonecall would I take her in ahhhhh well she was our first family animal called ruby. The girls still come round and see her espiecially my other neice was so upset to get rid of the kitten but she glad ruby came to us
As for the wheel well our hamster is in my daughter room and she must have her door open (dont worry cat is downstairs shut in the living room) as im deaf i dont hear a thing lucky me lol!!! but the family did moan abit but they all got used to it we had him ten months now.
Im waiting to get the karlie wooden wheel as he gotten big so as Im hearing from everyone else on here it is silent.

Hi,
Thank you all for your replies! I still have Hammy. My mum came today and she was so good. I completely forgive her for getting her as a surprise present (I feel really bad about being kind of angry about that). She said she was just so thrilled when she got her and she had no idea about the noise or anything. She got her out of completely the best intentions, to make me happy and because she loves hamsters and had them when she was young.

Yep I'm really exhausted! I really hope we sound-proofed the cage. The only problem I can see is if she climbs on top of the yellow cube/water bottle combination and manages to get up to the bars but I think it's probably too wobbly to do that (I put it on top of the carefresh). She was out a lot today. I bought a carrot and gave her a bit of that. She's asleep right now. I'll let her out later on, and fingers crossed that I won't hear any noise tonight!

I don't feel as stressed and horrible now (probably mainly cos I'm not having an allergic reaction any more, thank god, that went away quite fast) and also because I know, realistically, if really there is absolutely no answer to the noise (and my mum thinks maybe this flat just isn't suitable for pets) then I can give her back to the breeder who will re-home her and my mum said she was a lovely lady so it wouldn't be like it had a horrible ending or anything.

I really want to weigh her because she's so huge (she was born on 30 Oct - should she be this big?) but I don't have anything I can weigh her with.

Where can I host photos if I took one with my phone? As then I could post a picture of her for you all to see.

Thank you so much for your help, it really has meant a lot to me.

I really want her to come out at night and I'd be really happy if she's nibbling around all night - I'd be sad if she didn't but I've never heard anything like the insane banging she was doing! She's quite strong and she almost pulled a spoon out of my hand the other day. I'm really glad to hear that your daughter sleeps fine despite being a light sleeper. That's encouraging.

I have been reading all your frustrations and sympathize. Your hammie is a Syrian. I found Syrians are noisier than dwarfs, though my mice seem to be the best at it.
I connected two large cages together for my Syrian and put different things for him to do all night. Seemed to help. But I admit I bought three 25$ wheels before I found a completely silent one! After a while, he got sick, and I noticed it because the noise stopped. I guess the noise was good for something.

Thanks happysaz.
Aww, I'm really sorry to hear about your hamster essentiallysue. I must stress that I didn't want Hammy to stop making noise, I just wanted to not hear it to a level where I'd be able to sleep at night.
