Hey, everyone. I just thought I'd introduce myself and my hamsters. I've only been owning hamsters for about 9 months but I've become very obsessed and attached. My first one we owned was called Jitters. He was a dwarf hamster that we had for about 3 months or so. Unfortunately, we lost him due to a very tragic glue trap incident. After that, we bought Clover who is another dwarf hamster and a little nippy but very lovable. While still owning her, we decided to adopt another dwarf hamster that someone couldn't keep named Ruby. She is an absolute sweetheart. Then two weeks ago, on a splurge, decided to get two male regular sized long-hair hamsters. We decided on the names Wilbur and Orville but I'm still getting used to that. All in all, we love our hamsters and definitely spoil them rotten.

Yes, I'm assuming they're syrians. They're long-haired so they look like heads attached to a mop. They are in the same cage because that's how we bought them. They're brothers and they're still pretty young. It's a pretty large cage with three levels. But they loooove sleeping together. We have another cage if we need to separate them but for now they seem content with each other.

Welcome - make sure you keep a close eye on the brothers. Check for any scabs ot nicks especially underneath. As they mature and hormones kick in they will start to fight and this happens very suddenly. The longest males will usually stay together is about 10 weeks maximum but I would suggest separating them by 8 or 9 weeks before a disaster happens.
Syrians are solitary by nature and would live alone in the wild so it is in their nature to be separated.
Looking forward to seeing pictures of them

Welcome to HC! You can learn a lot here, it's a great source of info.
We all worry about syrians being placed together because it's dangerous for them, that's why you'll here so many concerns about separating them ASAP.

We are not as familiar with the average syrian hamster as much as dwarf hamsters. We understand and somewhat prefer the dwarf hamsters. I decided to get these two guys on a whim without much warning. I knew someone who had two female syrians and they lived their whole lives without fighting and we were not told by the pet store to keep them in separate cages. I haven't seen an issue so far and I believe they're about 8 to 10 weeks. They even prefer to sleep together. But if I seen signs of aggression I will separate them. I already have my two female dwarfs separated because they're territorial.

Welcome to the forum. You say you are not so familiar with Syrians. Lots of people on this forum are very experienced in keeping Syrians and almost 100% of them will tell you to keep them separate. It's best to do so now before any fights start as males in particular will not tolerate each other when hormones get in the way.

We look forward to seeing pics of your little ones

I separated them last night because you all said it was best and I don't want them to get hurt. But they seem lonely and still wanting the other? It breaks my heart. The one I moved to another cage will climb the side that the old cage is on and nibble at the bars there and stick his nose through to get to the old cage.

Heya and welcome to you and your fluffy babies!!
you done the right thing splitting them, they will be looking for the other, but will soon be used to it, it is needed, My two sisters, from the litter I bred had to be seporated after they started play fighting too much, its not natural for them to be together, so its the best thing you can do

I bet they are gorgeous!! long haired syrian boys are my little weakness!!! I love them so much!!!

I cant wait to see photos of them
