Re: Newbie...in need of advice! =)
Hi and Welcome to HC. We had three hybrids from P&H. They have all gone to the bridge now but they were always up to mischief and so funny. Dwarfies are wonderful pets.

Re: Newbie...in need of advice! =)
Thanks all for the welcomes.
I just don't know what breed to get.
I would love Winter Whites, but it seems they are so hard to find a breeder here in northern ireland on Google =(

Re: Newbie...in need of advice! =)
Hey all
So I found someone here just over an hour away who has some for sale.
http://www.gumtree.com/p/pets/baby-h...bils/106074136
Can someone please advise me on what I should ask to confirm health etc?
Also how do you think they would be travelling 1hr 30mins in a car?
Should I get two?
Thanks!

Re: Newbie...in need of advice! =)
The little dwarf is a hybrid hamster, the head shape is wrong.
The travelling is fine take a pet carrier with some bedding in & a bit of cucumber in so they have some moisture.
No I would not advise personally getting two hybrid dwarfs. There is a high chance they will fight. You could try & keep them together but you need to have another cage so that you can split them up if they fight. Also if you do have two in one cage you need two wheels, two water bottles, no food dish but scatter feed & a house whit more than one opening so one ham can not trap the other one.

Ah bummer, was finally excited cause I thought I found a proper breeder in Northern Ireland lol
Ah well!
Think just getting the one would be fine anyways, saves any future problems.
Don't know if its worth going over an hour and a half for that now if its not a proper winter white. =(

The only ones I know are nearest to me which is in the south so not much good to you.
I think there may be a email address on the Northanhamsterclub website?. You could ask where the nearest dwarf breeder is to you.

Re: Newbie...in need of advice! =)
Hey all
Ugh I thought I had it figured but now I'm even more confused than ever lol
So I spoke to a girl who had been working with hamsters for 5 years. Both Syrian and dwarf. She highly speaks of Syrians.
Someone help!
Should my husband and I continue with the search for Winter Whites or should we go for Syrians.
What would you recommend to a new hamster owner?
Thanks
Kim
