Default HIYA-I'm New

Hiya I thought i'd intro myself, I haven't had a hamster since I was a child and then it was my mum's responisbility to look after them. I thought that hamsters were
a child's pet and I never thought that I would want one ever again, not after I had kept rats they're so intelegent and not just nocternal.
But on Feb this year after a lot of concideration I and an instant falling in love with a lil hammy, I totally changed my mind.
When I bought my little bundle of joy he was pure black, he slowly turned to a dark grey blue colour and his little bottom has gone browny
red. He started with pure white eye-liner but that has also turned brown. I also was told he was a syrian and he is deffinately bigger than
a dawf hamster but he's no were near to the size of what I thought syrians should be. He's in proportion but I worry he's underfed. I give him
fresh food (little bit of apple or brocli or anything veggie or fruit that we have) every day and he has his shop bought food.
I am just worried that my little bundle of joy isn't right. He is very lively and he eats lots. he's not very clean he has a tendancy to poop in his bed
and store his food there to, I try to keep that clean to. I am a bit concerned about that too, as i remember my other hamster being very good and
potty trained but Pow hasn't taken to any of my efforts to potty train him.

I have been searching for people in the Leeds area who have got hamsters too.

My little man is called POW it was short for Pow wow meaning have a chat in native american I think but my other half thinks it's Pow as in a comic book Ka Pow lol.

hello & welcome to the forum; try not to get stressed out about potty training, all hammies are different and some take longer than others. Try putting some soiled bedding in your preferred loo area, and hopefully the message will get through that it's the place to go!

Welcome to Hc!
Most hams do poop and store food in their bed, it does seem weird but some hamsters will still do it no matter what you try!

Welcome to the forum
Just wanted to add, you may not want to feed him fresh food everyday as it can upset their tummys. To build him up you can try baby food, weetabix(milk and water mixed in) or scrambled/boiled egg white to name a few.

Welcome to HC! Your hammy sounds gorgeous. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to healthcare, but if something is wrong, you seemto be doing all you can do, and hopefully it's not anything serious.

Hi and Welcome

As long as he seems happy and healthy I would not worry to much about his size, syrians can be anything from 100g or under when younger, to 200g plus. Try and weigh him with some digital scales if you have some, we hae a weigh in thread too so look on there to see what other people hamsters weigh.

They do poo in their beds and pee on their food to make it softer - they are very refined! Its perfectly normal and nothing to worry about at all.

Hope that you enjoy the forum
