Welcome to the forum. Great to have you with us. Your hamster is a sweetie. I think it is a Syrian yellow, banded. Is it a long haired hamster? If it is long haired then males have a long skirt at the back so you may be able to tell from the coat. The males looks more elongated than the female in outline so try and look from above. It takes time and patience but try and take the cage to say a large bed and take the top off so you can get easy access. Try and encourage your hammie into a box or ball them take it on to your knee and allow it to crawl out giving treats and talking soothingly. Next cup your hands around the body and make a little tunnel with your fingers so Cali can feel your hands round her body and let her run through the tunnel from hand to hand. Try not to be scared or jumpy. Be firm and consistant and dont let her get used to not coming out or it will be harder to tame. Good luck and keep us posted.

I think its a she, i've seen the other long haired ones and she doesnt have that skirt thingie, and I was also thinking she was a yellow banded. I dont get jumpy Im used to small critters, now my fiance on the other hand, she likes pets, from a distance lol
I had cali in my hand and passed her over and she almost had a heart attack lol. We havent set a DATE yet, but was planning on sometime next year. I make sure to take her out everyday, usually once during the day and once in the evening. the hardest part is catching her shes so small and the long hair makes it hard cause I dont want to think im gonna squash her but when I think I have her she just slips right out of my hand. My fiance uses a cup to get her out but then shes afraid to touch her

I am sure I read that Yellow in USA is not Agouti but Self - which is quite bizarre.
