Default Hello! Hamtastic people!

Hi, I'm Sadies, or not really, but really.

I am a hamster lover and soon to hopefully be adopting a hamster once I have a set up.

I previously owned hamsters (over 7 years ago) but I did it the traditional "pet shop" prison way, which I feel really guilty for. I have since educated myself and have purchased an Ikea Detolf to set up with lots of burrowing space, sand bath, platforms and honestly just fill it up with as much enrichment as I can.

My dream is to give a home to an older hamster. I have owned Syrians in the past and would love to try a new species, but I will decide later because I want to adopt an hamster I feel a connection with.

...Sorry if I write too much, I never know what to write in an introduction so usually end up writing a book....

Have a good day

Hello Sadies. Welcome to the forum. What a brilliant idea to do your research first and get all the supplies. Giving a home to an older hamster is so lovely.

Hello and welcome to HC!

Don't feel bad about the past, sadly the majority of hamster owners are still there and many on here have been there.

Mainthing is that we have moved on and learned how to give our hamsters the lives they deserve.

Looking forward to see your detolf set up once completed and ready for a lucky hamster to move in.

Hello and welcome Lucky hamster with a detolf to move into. Which country are you in? I would check out hamster rescue places and private sales - people wanting to rehome.

Thanks, I understand I can't change the past and can only improve the future. Hopefully my future hamsters will have happier lives.

I will post some pictures when it is set up. :3

Thnx. :3
I am in the UK. I have been looking around for rescues and contacted a few already for information, but so far haven't found a rescue that has hamsters close to me. As I don't drive it limits me a little. Am focusing mostly at getting my set up done first and even though I am bad at looking, I try not to because I want to be fully ready before bringing a hamster home.

You could check out Happy Hamsters on Facebook - they have regions in various parts of the country. Also check on preloved, Gumtree and Pets4homes. I would advise against getting a hamster from any "private" breeders you see advertising though - official breeders are the only ones listed on the NHC.
