Questions about sunfire hamster
All the following questions are just to learn about “sunfire” hybrid hamsters. I do not plan on breeding any hamsters. I’m just curious and intrigued. I bought a gorgeous hamster that was labeled as a sunfire hamster. She is mainly white/cream with a yellow/orange stripe and bright red eyes. After trying to learn more I came across certain things that I would like to know if they are accurate or true.
To begin it was an easy give away that sunfire hamsters are hybrids regardless of them being sold as djungarian/WW. One major give away being that red eyes are not found in Dj/WW.
Now for the things I’m not sure or need someone to let me know if they are true:
1. Is it true that hybrids have a shorter life span of 12-18 months?
2. Are sunfire hamsters acquired by breeding a pearl sapphire WW with a red eye agente campbell?
3. Are hybrids prone to diabetes and neurological problems?
4. Breeding hybrids in general is bad but breeding two sunfire hamsters will result in 25% fatal, 50% sunfire, 25% non-sunfire?
5. And lastly is sunfire specific to the combination of yellow/orange coat colors with red eyes or is it interchangeable with pudding and mandarin? Regardless of eye color

Re: Questions about sunfire hamster
Most questions i can't answer because i don't know anything about breeding.
Going by my own experiences and i may simply have been unlucky, i concluded the following:
Yes, hybrids are prone to diabetes and their diet needs to be adjusted accordingly. I adopted a 5 months old diabetic hybrid who died at 13 month. Going by his behaviour he had mental issues but i don't if the cause was neurological or psychological trauma.
All my hybrids had health issues ranging from cancer, tumors to lymphoma and died at 10 month, 16 month (sunfire hybrid), 18 month and 22 month.
I think that Winter whites and Campbells should never have been interbred because it led to genetic disadvantages and shorter lifespans.
Saying that, any species of hamster can take ill at any time, just like humans.
I now have a pedigree Winter white dwarf in the hope that better genetics will give her a longer and healthier life.

Re: Questions about sunfire hamster
I think sunfire dwarf is just a pet shop nickname for any yellow/orangey coloured hybrid dwarf such as a mandarin.
Hybrids are prone to a lot of illnesses that can shorten their lifespan to even as short as 12 months or less, but many will live longer. I have two hybrids. Bramble is 2 years old and Athena is 18 months old. Bramble is in better health than Athena, so it's very individual.
