Hard to believe that I've had Little Minx for just over a week now! She definitely seems to have settled into her new home and has started to trust me.

Minx is definitely an active hamster once she gets up and going and has now got more of a routine once she is up. She generally will have a stretch and yawn as she comes out (really must try to get a photo of this - such a big mouth for such a small little hamster lol), then will go on hunt for her treats, will pouch one and eat one (depending on what it is), then will hide her pouched treat before going to her water bottle for a drink and then attack her millet spray lol. She'll then run on her wheel for a bit before going of for a small nap again, then will come back out later on in the night for her main food and another run on her wheel.

She is still a little nervous of me, but considering I have only had Little Minx for just over a week, I am not surprised. She's definitely happy being on her own, especially as she doesn't have to 'share' things with her 'housemate' Minnie now. I am slowly gaining Minx's trust though, especially as she is getting to know that I'm the one who has been feeding her and giving her water every day. She's not bothered by Winnie (cat), and will quite happily be munching away whilst Winnie is watching her - she is very calm around all my animals and is always supervised in my room and door is closed when I am at work so she doesn't cause trouble.

It's strange though how such a small, little hamster can gently nudge at your heartstrings though lol.

Time for a weekly update on Little Minx.

Haven't seen her much this week, but when I have she's happy and healthy. She has started to take her treat from my fingers now and has had a few sniffs of my hand. Still a bit wary, but doesn't run away as she has done before.

I know she's not ready to be handled yet and I am going to take things at her pace. She's definitely made her home though in the little dwarf clay house that I bought from Rodipet - she stayed in her edible house for the first couple of nights, but she now has spent the past 10 days in the clay one.

I'm a little worried though as on the 11th-18th March, my parents have told me that we are going on holiday for that week as it's my aunt's 60th, but I as yet haven't got a clue what to do with Little Minx whilst I am away. I doubt my parents will allow anyone to come in and pet sit (although I might ask if they will allow Colin to come over and check on her as my parents do trust him) but if not then I might have to leave a lot of food out for her and cross my fingers she'll be OK - any suggestions are welcome?

Apart from that I am glad Little Minx has settled down nicely and is very calm, but timid.

Hi again,

Time for an update on Little Minx.

Seen her a little more this week, especially over the last couple of nights as she's been out when I've been around. She is still unsure about me, but is OK with me having my hand in the tank when I've been giving her food and water etc.

I'm not sure if she is ready to start handling yet to be honest, so will take things at her pace and won't rush her into it.

It was quite nice to see her actually, considering last week I barely saw her at all. I have taken a few more photos of her, but can't upload them yet as I am currently on my work laptop lol. I will try to put some photos on here next week. I've forgotten how white she is underneath, in fact she is almost 50/50 with the grey on top and white underneath. She is beautiful (but then I am bias lol).

Still unsure about what I am going to do about Little Minx when I go away on the 11th-18th March, but I might ask Colin if he can come over (or my friend Alex if Colin's not available.

It's not so bad for my other animals as Winnie (cat) is going to the cattery (we've got a great one), my corn snakes are fed fortnightly (so will feed before I go), Leo is the same - I will just feed him the morning I go away and again as soon as I come home. Truffle and Chaos II have a locust weekly as well - so they are all fine. It's just Little Minx I am a little concerned about...but I will ask both Colin and Alex today and see if they can help out.

That's all for now - I will hopefully get some time to put some more photos up of her this week .

Thank you for the updates and little Minx seems to be doing very well.

Yes, you definitely need someone to come in to feed and check on her. A week is too long to leave a hamster. If you can't find someone to come in you could take her to a petsitter in her cage. There are businesses that take in small animals. Maybe the cattery could advise you as they may know someone.

Looking forward to see more photos.

Hey Ria,

I've finally managed to get in contact with my best mate to come in and check on her on a daily basis now . He had changed his phone number and then forgotten what my number was to contact me lol At least I can trust him enough to do a daily check on her. I've told him not to try to touch Little Minx as she's still quite skittish and will most likely hide from him. He's also agreed to keep a check on the other animals too. Just typical guy when he changed his phone number lol - phew I can relax now lol

One thing I forgot to say was that Little Minx did allow me to give her a few little strokes on her head the other night, which was lovely. She has definitely been a little harder to tame than Bonnie was, but considering her start in life and her major squabble with her 'sibling' Minnie, it doesn't surprise me. I love Little Minx's character and love her the same as Bonnie.

Hello,

I've actually brought my laptop into work today - mainly because I have coursework to do...but as I have it I thought I'd upload some photos of Little Minx

Apologies for the darkness, they were taken late in the evening and I only had my little bedside light on. But you can see just how grey/white she is though.

This is my absolute favourite photo of Minx - so I saved it for the last one

Hope you all enjoy

Cloudy - aww thank you

Axeriax - thank you very much. Little Minx is my second Russian Dwarf hamster that I've had (Bonnie being the first) and it's interesting how her character is starting to show. Every hamster has a different personality, bit like humans, so it's always a good idea to trust their judgement, rather than push them too far - which might mean they could become fearful of you and lose their trust in you.

Ria - I know right. Little Minx looks like she's wearing a grey blanket whilst sitting in snow lol. As I said in my previous post, I love the last photo I put up of her - has to be my favourite
