Only the one hamster and two gerbils, and technically I could keep more (I have two tanks sitting empty), but it wouldn't be responsible in terms of potential vet bills. If all three animals needed a vet right now I could just about manage, but anymore than that and I couldn't. So I don't think I can responsibly get more animals at the moment.

Re: Edwina
Edwina's re-worked habitat looks lovely! Lots to explore!
I'd love to see some close up photos of her.
Our little ones absolutely love millet sprays! They demolish the seeds in a few days leaving only the stalk.

Re: Edwina
sushi_78, I must applaud you wholeheartedly for your very responsible attitude. Hamsters are really not low-maintenance pets at all which I think many people don't realise, often thinking the complete opposite.

Yes, so would I. If only she would sit still for long enough. I just had her out running around and she sat still for about three seconds to have a quick wash while sitting on my shoulder.

That is a very sensible and responsible attitude to have sushi.

Thank you. Since my hamster and gerbils are a similar age (the gerbils are little older but they also live a little longer), they're going to get old and potentially sick at around the same time, and I need to be prepared for that.
I've thought about fostering small animals, since I have the tanks and the vet bills are usually paid by the charity, but I haven't been able to find any rescues that need small animal foster carers yet. Maybe in the future.

Re: Edwina
My concern about fostering is that I'd get too attached to ever let them go!

Have you been in touch with the RSPCA/Blue Cross?
Small animal boarding may also been an option to look in to.

I haven't been in touch with any charities yet, I may do so in the next few months. I already do small animal boarding, though there's not a lot of demand. It's nice to meet new animals and gain experience while getting paid for it and without the worry of vet bills.

Haha I know exactly what you mean! Nanuk and Norman almost never sit still. On a constant mission.
