Hello.

Bonnie has started coming up to my hands most nights, but she is still very skittish. The slightest movements and she's under her shelf. But it's coming slowly, but surely.

I am looking at the veggie list and working out what I can give her that's low in sugar. She certainly likes her sunflower hearts (about 5) and pumpkin seeds (2) that she has as a treat every evening. She also likes cauliflower stalks as well.

It's surprising as I see her normally about lunchtime, running on her wheel (yes she's finally found it lol).

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd give an update on Bonnie (I'll do one for Cocoa afterwards).

Bonnie is adorable. She loves her sunflower hearts and pumpkin seeds at night. In fact, it's quite funny now because when she sees me coming, she'll run up to the doors and smoosh herself on the glass (kind of like a cartoon character would do if it hits the wall)!!

Still quite skittish, so I haven't managed to hold her yet, but she will come up to my hand and smell my fingers (probably to see where her seeds are lol).

I'll try and get some photos of her soon - hopefully even a "smooshed" one lol.

This is what happened to me on Wednesday. I went in to P@H to collect new toys for Humphrey my syrian and came out with a Russian dwarf hybrid named Hamish.

I hope your new girl is settling in nicely!

Eeks! I haven't posted on here for ages - many apologies but blame lockdown lol.

Bonnie is now just over 2 years old and when she's not asleep, she is surprisingly very active - although I've had to adapt her tank a little to suit her needs.

She was struggling to drink out of her water bottle. The first one she was finding difficult to get any water out, but thankfully I put a bowl in there as a second option whilst I got a new bottle. Unfortunately, after one night, it leaked all into where her bedding was. Cue major clean out and then made a decision to just stick to a bowl as Bonnie seems to like this option better than a bottle (possibly because it's easier on her neck).

So far, Bonnie is still managing solid food fairly well - seems to prefer the smaller seeds to the larger ones (so started breaking these down a bit).

She still enjoys running on her wheel and digging a tunnel system around her home. She sometimes struggles to get up on her platform, so I've made her a little ramp to make it easier (mind you - she'd rather chew it and try to go up on her normal way lol). She is certainly slowing down though and is sleeping a lot more, but at points during the day, I often hear her nibbling on something under her wooden tunnel.

Although she does come up to the door for her treats and a little bit of stroking, she's never shown much interest in coming out of her tank and starts to stress out a little when she does have to come out (normally when I do a cage clean), so apart from that, I give her attention inside her tank and she enjoys that.

That's about it really. I've unfortunately now got to let you know about Cocoa.

Take care.

Hello.

Sorry it's been a while since I posted.

And I've got some bad news as well.

Over the past fortnight, I noticed a small lump on Bonnie's right ear. So I made an appointment for tomorrow (Monday), but sadly, she deteriorated so quickly there was nothing I could really do. I tried to get an emergency appointment, but unfortunately the emergency line wasn't working. She allowed me to pick her up, first time in a while, but a few minutes later, she passed away in my arms.

Bonnie has really got me loving russian dwarf hamsters and her tank is perfect size for a small one, so I will probably start looking for another in the near future. Her personality really shone out and it was always nice to hear her little wheel quietly whirring away at night. Even though she wasn't keen on coming out of her tank, she really did live a very happy little life and is actually the longest time I have ever owned a hamster, 2 1/2 years.

It's a shame she didn't live until her 3rd birthday, but I'm so glad of the time I spent with her and she was a little sweetheart.

Rest in soft Peace little Bonnie, aka Mouse and Bon Bon. I will miss you so much.
