Re: All About My Treacle
Lovely Treacle pics. Love the one where she's peeking out of her cage, very cute! Great cage set up, looks like she loves her little red train.

Re: All About My Treacle
She's a lovely girl and it's good to see her enjoying her train, so nice that she bounds over to her door to greet you though not so good she's biting the bars

Re: All About My Treacle
Aww, Treacle waiting by the door to greet you and beg to be extra spoiled just touches my heart and brings a huge grin to my face! I just love it and love her. Those pics are just utterly cuteness overload with her peeking out the door and through the cage bars, lol. Her cage setup looks incredible as always. I also love that your lovely cutie pie enjoys her little, wooden train so much - her adorable pics are very evident of the that, lol. I also enjoy her running in her wheel pic, too. She sure looks like she is running a marathon. Treacle is just TOO cute and lovely!

Treacle’s Christmas Cage
I have recently had to move Treacle into my IKEA Samla 130l bin cage from her Ferplast Mary after she became so fixated on bar chewing that she started to try to climb the bars, however due to her arthritic back legs this would often resulting in her leg being stuck through the bars which left me paranoid that she was going to injure herself if she couldn’t get her legs out to get down. So decided I couldn’t risk any injuries and felt the best thing would be to move her into a cage without bars. As I wanted to move her urgently I decide to use my Samla bin cage as her new permanent home, instead of buying her an entire new cage, so I spent the majority of my day of on Tuesday setting up her new cage to be almost identical in layout to the Ferplast Mary so the change wouldn’t be so overwhelming to her. I had to drill holes in the box to secure her shelves in place which was the most nerve wracking part as I couldn’t work out how high I wanted them to be plus had to make sure the shelves were level, but luckily I managed to do this. With the height I attached the shelves I have managed to provide her with about the same level of substrate as she previously had – although possible slightly more. When setting up her cage I decided it was time to decorate her cage ready for Christmas!
Treacle has been enjoying her new cage recently, although at the beginning she was quite confused to where the bars had gone but soon realised that she had other things to chew upon opposed to the bars. Although as I was finishing setting up the cage I encountered an issue – how was I going to attach her bottle – I considered drilling a hole through the side for the spout but couldn’t figure out the ideal height as I’m so used to Syrians.
I wanted another bottle holder like I was using for Liquorice, I didn’t think the pet store that I had initially gotten it from a year ago would have any -as they only had two then - but luckily they did have a bottle holder (not the same size as I had but the next size up – plus I think it was the same one that was there last year as it had thick dust on it). So the new bottle holder was slightly too tall for Samla so switched it for Liquorice’s one – so now they both have a secure bottle holder.
So this is how Treacle’s Samla looks now after she has been in it for almost a week - so quite a few seeds on her blue shelf from her chewing off the remainder of her treat stick.
Treacle has been doing well recently health wise although her arthritic back legs were giving her a bit of grief later on last week that she wasn’t finding it as easy to go up her ladder to her shelves that I decided to wrap the ladder in sisal string – so now she has no issue and can even race up it in remarkable speed. Plus she enjoyed getting to stretch her legs a little on Sunday, by having a run around the floor.
It has taken her a little while to get used to not being in a bar caged, so she did mistake my finger the other day for a treat which left her biting my finger – although her teeth didn’t puncture my skin – as she used to treat being handed to her and then when she wanted a cuddle she would climb onto my hand from her doorway. She has been getting more used to this now and is tolerating me picking her up occasionally to help her avoid any confusion – as her eyesight isn’t great due to her getting cataracts.
Apart from this Treacle is doing really well and is still my troublesome Treacle, who never fails to put a smile on my face. She is truly a special girl.
So here are some photos of her enjoying some peas, the first photo she was trying to figure out where she could smell the peas then once she realised where they were she grabbed on and ate it in the privacy of her hyacinth tunnel…

Re: All About My Treacle
Love the pictures of her munching on her peas. Her samla bin looks great and it's good that she's settled in fairly quickly. It must have been quite a worry with her arthritic legs and the bar chewing/climbing, they can be quite the little troublemakers

Re: All About My Treacle
I'm glad Treacle is settling in to her bin cage ok, it must have been a real worry seeing her climbing the bars & knowing how easily she could hurt herself, good to know she's going to be safe now I'm sure.
Such adorable photos of your beautiful girl with her peas

Re: All About My Treacle
Aww, Treacle looks so precious and lovely enjoying her delicious peas! Seeing her sure melts my heart and makes me smile. She is SO tiny and cute. I absolutely LOVE her Christmasy themed cage design. It really looks very festive and cheerful; I know Santa Paws and his tiny elves would be impressed since it looks like it belongs at their North Pole headquarters. I can just imagine how much fun she Treacle is having in there and how wonderful it must be to see her playing with all of her wonderful things.

Re: All About My Treacle
Bless Treacle and being a bit confused about her barless home, it did make me smile. She'll probably feel a difference now she can't climb any bars. Love her Christmas themed home and those pics of her eating peas so melted my heart.

Happy Christmas and Updates
Treacle is still doing very well since moving into her bin cage – her arthritic legs don’t seem to be affecting her as much especially since modifying her ladder with sisal string as she races up it now. I try to get photo of her but she races around at such a pace that she not in most of my photos so here are a few that I managed to capture of her enjoying her festive cage …
Plus she is still loving her food and treats – she has a ferocious appetite. It’s so lovely hearing her excited chirps as she races over to discover what evening treat she has each night often takes it back to her bed to enjoy.
I finally managed to get Treacle some dried shrimp to try – after some of your suggested me trying Treacle with them. And every time I went out shopping I completely forgot to get some so finally I remember to get her some to try. After Liquorice refused to touch one I didn’t have high hope for Treacle as she can be a bit fussy with treats – well she couldn’t get enough of them and it was lovely hearing her happy chirps as she excitedly ate them.
I noticed the other day that Treacle had a red mark beside her right eye when holding her but as she never sits still for long enough I couldn't get a good look plus as she getting older she isn’t overly keen on being handled much prefer to be left alone in her cage – which I don’t mind as I will do whatever make her the happiest. So instead managed to get a photo – I know that it quite common for Russians to get red bumps by their eyes – so would appreciate someone with more experience of keeping Russians could offer me advice – as I don’t want to stress her out with an unnecessary vet visit especially with it being quite cold at the moment plus it doesn’t seem to be bothering her in the slightest. Here is the photo I took …
After my eventual year with unexpected losses of both Pumpkin and Maple I have been extremely worried and cautious with my girls – plus with not knowing Treacle’s exact age I was worried that she might not get to spend Christmas with me - so to mark this special occasion I decided to try to do a quick Christmassy photoshoot with her as I didn’t want to stress her out.
Treacle wanted to wish you and your hammies have an extra special Christmas together and spread love and happiness this Christmas – as she truly has brought so much happiness to me! So Treacle will also being getting spoilt this Christmas by Santa Paws.
