Re: Meet Willow
As far as I know they're pregnant for 18-21 days CMB & you've had Willow longer than that now so pregnancy is unlikely.

Re: Meet Willow
Hmm! You've had her exactly four week's isn't it? I suppose it's possible she could have had pups a week ago and they're in her nest. Have you done a clean out since you had her? The fact you've heard some squeaking as well. And she doesn't want to come out and is ignoring you. Although that can be normal for a hamster lol but it's a change in her behaviour.
You will soon know if there are pups in her nest. Meanwhile it might be best to not try and tempt her out and put extra food out.

Re: Meet Willow
It is entirely possible that she could have pups hidden away but I don't think she would have been happy to come out as recently as she was or be out in her wheel if she had pups, she'd probably be very wary of hands in the cage & eating a lot more than normal if she is.
I guess it's just a matter of wait & see really.

Re: Meet Willow
I have had Willow 4 weeks tomorrow. Got heron the 4.6.17. Wow time goes fast. If she was pregnant when I gat her 18 - 21 days pregnant would have pups born on the 22.6.17 - 25.6.17. So pups would be between 6 and 9 days old.
I haven't done a big clean yet. Spot cleaned the sand bath/toilet and bits of left over food/shells of sunflower seeds etc.
She doesn't run on the wheel, more sits in it to wash. I have a bale of Fitch, but in case of babies, I will wait before doing a partial bigger clean out.
More tissue has been taken to her nest. So it's even harder to see anything. She is keeping my guessing. Patience is the keep. I wonder if this will effect taming? Will she go backwards a bit due to not being held for a while?

Re: Meet Willow
Happy 4 week gotcha day for tomorrow, Willow!
I reckon she is just a talkative lady - but maybe she does have some pups. That would be exciting!
Don't know whether not being held could affect the taming as I've only ever had Syrians, and they have never stayed tucked away. I have left them at home while on holiday for a few nights, and that didn't seem to affect how tame they were.

Re: Meet Willow
It might set things back a bit if she's having a spell of not being handled before being fully tamed or not having had a lot of handling but if it does she should pick up again fairly quickly, not like going back to the beginning.

Re: Meet Willow
I wouldn't worry about taming just now If she does have pups she'll be more interested in taming them! If she doesn't then I don't think it will set things back. I think it's quite a gradual process anyway and a bit of a break from it can do them good as well.
From what I could see it's 18 to 21 days pregnancy, but some places said it could be up to 25 or 30 days - I'm sure one of the breeders will know. I'm not sure how long before you would see any pups appear, but you'll find out soon enough
It's the squeaking that made me wonder!

Re: Meet Willow
I've not heard 25 - 30 days, but it could fit in with her behaviour.

Re: Meet Willow
Happy 4 Week Gotcha CMB for Willow.
I really hope it's just her being talkative and not babies.
