Re: Meet Artie
Artie has been out in the playpen this morning for a little while. He's very difficuilt to take any pictures off as he won't sit still for a second, always racing around attacking everything in site (including our hands and fingers :P ). I thought I would share a couple of the less blurry pics.
I'm also looking for a bit advice so if anyone has any words of wisdom please fire away He was using his upright wheel and his saucer wheel in his cage but now he is only using the saucer and he's using it a lot. We took the upright one out and replaced it with a silent runner but he's not shown any interest in it and still prefers the saucer. I know the saucers aren't the best for them so I'm wondering what to do? Especially considering he's not had the best start. I think I would have been tempted to take the saucer out but don't want to stress him out as I imagine he will still have some settling to do, but don't want him to end up with problems if he's going to keep continuing to use it so much.
Sorry for the wall of text!

Re: Meet Artie
Adorable photos I'm so in love with this little guy!
I've had a couple of Russians who used both saucers & wheels but seemed to prefer the saucer although never using it exclusively, Flynt probably used mostly his saucer rather than his wheel all his life & it never did him any harm.
I wouldn't worry too much, taking the saucer out probably would stress him & he has been through a lot, still early days for him really. I would leave the silent runner in the cage, maybe put a few seeds in each night to encourage interest & he might take to it with time.

Re: Meet Artie
Awwww he's so cute. Lovely photos. The second one is adorable! I hope he stops attacking you soon.
And I'm sorry that I can't give you any advice about the flying saucer :/ but I know nothing about that

Re: Meet Artie
Adorable photos of the handsome Artie. He looks like he was enjoying himself in the playpen. I hope he realises that he doesn't need to attack your hand and instead realises it brings good things for him.

Re: Meet Artie
Thank you all, I'm sure he'll settle with time Thanks for the advice Cypher, I'll leave it in and stick seeds in the silent runner. I worried about leaving it in after reading a couple of threads recently about them!

Re: Meet Artie
It's only fairly recently that opinion has been more set against saucers really, while I agree they may not be the ideal I don't think they're as bad as they're sometimes made out to be so just let Artie choose & enjoy

Re: Meet Artie
Aww what a little cutie!
I agree with cypher, let Artie choose, he knows what he likes and maybe he goes faster on the saucer and that's why he prefers it.

Re: Meet Artie
You're right Lizzy, he does like going fast
Now I'm going to apologise for the amount of pics I'm going to post. Artie is not in the least bit scared of the camera and carries on with whatever he is doing...meaning I take far too many pictures and can't decide what ones to post! This morning I heard a strange noise coming from the hamster's room and I found Artie climbing about on his dandelion treat stick, stuffing his cheeks with as much as he could fit in. I think he was trying to give his big Brother Pasha a run for his money as to who could eat the most
If I just climb up here...
and stick my leg over there
if only Mum would move that cardboard tube over a bit..
that's it now I can sit on it while I graze
Time for a little rest
Onwards..
and finally taking some tips from Lizzy's Master Harvey on how to hug your treats!
