Default Hello Poe!

Hello everyone, this is Poe!

He is a tiny little white hybrid who I have already kind of introduced! But since his big sister Cc has her own thread it seems unfair not to do the same for him!

No idea what age he is, he was returned to p@h for fighting with a cagemate and he has been there since early September so maybe 6 months minimum. He was a sad scruffy little fluffball when I spotted him in the adoption centre and his fur is a little bit thin looking but I have confidence that with some hair care tips from Cc shiny ham we can get him glowing

I'm being very good and not touching or anything but since I needed to let the princess out for her run tonight I was making some noise and chatting away and he popped out to make sure I knew HE knew how to use his saucer

https://youtu.be/kWEbPDSWz08

His cage looks so bare and everything is so tiny, I'm going to have to go dwarf-shopping! Anyone got any ABSOLUTE must haves???

What a sassy little thing! haha

I'm not sure how this is personally, BUT if I were to be getting a dwarf, I would be ALL over this. It is adorable!!

OMG! That thing is wonderful. And not bad at all price wise.

Shannon, that wee one is a little chubs, isn't he? I adore little round dwarf hammies. I bet he learns to go a lot faster on that saucer before too long.

Hey Poe! I love your new thread.

He is adorable! Love the video. Watch out Shannon! The little scruffy meek ones always turn out to be wild! I used to dog walk for the RSPCA. Most of them were greyhounds but there was this one sad scruffy little black dog who looked timid and I said I'd prefer to take him as greyhounds could be strong - plus he made my heart melt. So off we all went with our dogs and this little black meek one turned completely maverick - dragging me all over the place on his lead and kept trying to hurl himself off the bridge or into the river. Mental! Next week he wasn't there. He had been re-homed. I was sad but pleased for him. The following week he was back - the family couldn't cope with him and said he was too mental. I think he did get a home eventually. Anyway - I hope Poe is full of confidence now and I bet he's a cheeky one!

Hello little Poe
He is lovely & the video is great, he looks very confident to me so I wouldn't hold back on interacting, he looks ready!
Must haves for mine are egg boxes! Mickle spends ages in her's every day & they make a great place for hiding food or treats, the sea grass tunnels have been a huge hit with all my dwarfs, it's nice that they like to hide away in there but you can still see them (I don't think they know that lol!) coconuts are always good too & then if you can figure out if he's a chewer or not there's always all those tempting Fuzzbutts
They do seem to enjoy a nice big semi enclosed sand bath too, Mickle has one of these & loves it & Flynt always loved his big salt pig & glass jar, he was spoilt with two sand baths!
I almost forgot little terracotta flower pots, another good place to hide things in if you half bury them in the substrate, they enjoy digging around in them which can help to keep those nails trim as they grow a lot faster & longer than a syrians.
I think it's a lot easier to get creative with dwarfs cages as they're so small it's easier to find suitable things, have fun!
I've found all my tiny hybrids are huge on nesting building too & seem to require mountains of shredded tissue, I keep a plastic tub full due to sudden unexpected demands for more, I really don't know how they cram it all in but they do!

Great to see little Poe in such a happy mood and with a loving new home. It`s really good that Pets At Home have their adoption centre because it gives so many second (sometimes third chance) hamsters a loving home. My Chubs came from there too. He`s going to have so much fun! If Poe is your first hybrid, your in for a mad time! Although my Chubs isn`t quite as lively during the day he likes his bed too much!!! x

Must welcome Poe again on his official thread. He looks like he is going to settle down really quickly. Congrats again on bringing him home.
Psst...liked the glimpse of CC too!

Hello Poe.

A favourite toy for my Chineseys has been what I call the 'cheese block'. Mine came with free nesting material which is that horrible fluffy stuff but once you take that out, it's a nice toy. They can also be used to hold water bottles in bin cages and tanks and that's what I used James' for to start with although he wanted to play in it regardless of the fact there was a water bottle in the way. I've never tried one with a Hybrid because my two wouldn't forgive me if I took theirs away to try.

Egg boxes are popular as Cypher has suggested although some will play in it and others will just destroy it. Meat was one of those hamster who'd destroy it within a week but liked to put the shreds in his bed.

Sooty likes her Sports Direct mug that she keeps her food stash in and she adores her Flying Saucer. We tried giving her an upright wheel but she didn't know how to use it.
