Default Flynt's thread

Considering I've had Flynt the longest of my little trio & he's the oldest (a year last Christmas) I thought it really was about time he had a thread of his own, he's such a timid quiet little guy there may not be many updates or as much amusement as with the other two but I do feel he deserves a mention!

I got him too soon really after I had my little Ziggy PTS, I think I was just too upset to argue & so got myself talked in to going to a pet shop I'd only been to once before (not the chain we're familiar with) & sworn I'd never go again, I'm sure they aren't doing anything illegal but the conditions for the hams just seem totally unsuitable & very, very stressful.
Of course once I got there I just wanted to rescue all of them, the girl had no idea how to handle them & they were all squealing & squeaking like crazy poor things, I was only set up for one ham at the time so somehow picked Fynt out of all of them.

I don't know if he's born a bit lazy or if it was just sheer relief but unlike all my others who have been quite frantic on the journey home he was burrowed down in the carrier & fast asleep before I even left the shop! His name was nearly Zebedee (for those of you old enough to remember "Time for bed"!).

Once home he was the most frightened animal I have ever seen, he screamed at the sound of my voice for the first couple of weeks let alone the sight of me!
He just hid himself away in his cabin & stayed there until long after I'd gone away, only ever coming out late at night once he was sure I wasn't around.

After lots and lots and lots of time just talking to him quietly, lifting the lid of his cabin & dropping the odd sunflower seed in he eventually learnt that I wasn't quite so scary after all, it did take time & I really thought he'd never accept my company but now he is the most docile, sweet & loving little boy.

He rarely comes out in the day, although lately he has been popping out briefly a little more, if only to grab some nice fresh veg that he can smell! He's still very, very scared of being away from his cage but will climb the bars to get to me for a cuddle (& breakfast of course!) when he hears me get up in the morning, he loves to rub noses & nibble my ears which seems to be his way of saying good morning!
He loves his wheel & flying saucer but coming out of his cage far too infrequently he doesn't really get enough exercise so he is a rather overweight little guy, hopefully he'll have a bigger cage soon & room for more to do & maybe even run around a bit more!
The little time I have with him is so precious I rarely think of taking photos but here's a few.

Baby Flynt getting brave enough to venture out of his cabin!

He's lovely. Those little apricot/peachy coloured patches are so nice. I hadn't seen that before until I went to a hamster show & I just love it

Thanks Velma
It is a lovely colour & his coat is the softest ever too! I could stroke him all day if he'd let me lol!

Aw he's lovely
Also what do you think of the wooden food hidey toy? I've been thinking of getting it for Dolly. Does Flynt seem interested in it?

Aww, it's lovely to see Flynt, cypher and hear his story. He's quite the adorable little fluff. Wonderful photos too.

Nat - I have one of those in the playpen and all that venture in know about it and what it might contain. I love to see the fluffs smelling out the treats and then revealing the secrets. I'd definitely recommend it.

Thanks guys, I'll pass on the compliments!

Nat those toys are quite good, all my hams enjoy them but it only takes them seconds to figure it out! There is another one they make with a lid that lifts up, may be a bit more of a challenge

Oh Cypher Flynt is just gorgeous, it's so lovely to see him and to read his story, I'm pleased he has his own thread now

No they are no more of a challenge LOL but all my hams love them We also have the larger one, it has two lift up lids and third one in the middle that lifts completely off, that's not more of a challenge either
