I find it's harder to re-home hamsters with red eyes, but I love them anyway so I don't mind!

Hope you don't mind me adding a pic of my hybrid kyrilliondaemon, but he reminds me of my Lilly, but she is a little bit scruffier than him

Thanks Syrian Hammy

Its a shame some don't like the red eyes on hams Lilly actually reminds me of a cross between two of our first hybrids, Timmy and Scruff - both started out with colour and white (Timmy was argente and white, Scruff grey and white) and ended up completely white, her fur is a lot like Scruff's was but her face is more like Timmy's was

I nearly missed this good news as I`ve been busy today and skipping through posts! Mr Buckminster is ADORABLE! Just the type that steals my heart so I can see how you fell for him kyrill. I love white hamsters but have never kept one. Just white mice....which are magical. x

Thanks We have white mice too (as you know), one of the three has the dubious honour of being called "The silly one" as often as not

We got him out earlier, he was completely happy to be out and is a confident ham but we did confirm that he nips. I sort of see why he hasn't had a home sooner now, his nips aren't going to break the skin but they aren't gentle either. Its fine, we have an idea to try tomorrow and at worst we'll spend the next few weeks trying different things He's so confident and unphased by things that if we need to we can afford to take a while figuring out the best approach to stopping the nipping

He's happy and going to be well cared for and thats the main thing

Aww he's gorgeous Kyrill. 3 months, what a long time to be waiting for a home, though having a biter (still) myself, I can see why most people wouldn't be exactly queuing up at the cage. I hope you manage to turn his bite-y habits around.

As to why red eyed hamsters always seem to be the ones needing a home, a lot of people don't like red eyed animals of any kind, believing their evil or the work of the devil. Goodness knows where that idea comes from, possibly from the fact that things with glowing red eyes are usually depicted as scary monstrous beings, and evil is obviously associated with Satan.

Oh, your hamster is such a cutie, really adorable!
I don't know why people don't like red eyed hamster, but I have to admit that ever since I watched Watership Down as a child, I'm not such a fan of red eyed rabbits .

LOL. And to think I went looking for a red-eyed hammy...amd brought home 2! Silly people. Krill, your new hammy is stunning. Fluffy like crazy. I love him. I hope he stops the biting, but, even if he doesn't, I know he'll be safe and happy with you. What a lovely little hammy.

Thanks everyone, sorry for forgetting to reply. I'm really good at forgetting to reply to things

I can confirm that yes he's a stubbornly nippy ham. He's also a pretty clever ham and it makes for a fun combination when we'd like to stop the nipping lol. He's better with gloves than he used to be but he also quickly worked out that the answer was to try and climb to the wrist instead... He wants to nip, clearly enjoys nipping and is happy nipping. Its not fear based, aggression based or pretty much anything else based as far as we can tell - it seems to be its just what he wants to do.
We also found that he is cage aggressive but its only once he's settled in and is confident in his home. His cage aggression takes a completely different form to his nipping though, when nipping out of the cage its just what he wants to do, when being cage aggressive he really does appear from nowhere to have a good go at an outright attack lol

Despite his behavioural problems he is still utterly adorable. He's big, fluffy, cute and happy

Tonight we upgraded him to an Alaska because he is big, he will enjoy the space and he may as well have it. We're not sure we'll ever stop his nipping but we hope that having a big cage and lots of time to get used to humans reguarly feeding him but not demanding interaction may help. We figure if its just a case of not liking people backing off a lot may reassure him but we'll see... Either way he'll enjoy the space and its definetly not going to make him any worse lol

Here're some newer pics of him settling in to the Alaska and I've attatched one of the Alaska and one of him in a previous playtime as well (the playtime pic shows him by a standard pasta sauce jar so is helpful for size comparison). He's grown a bit since the playtime pic but its hard to get a really good size comparison pic of him

It's...it's...it's a giant Q-Tip! I love this little feisty hammy. Almond has only recently stopped biting me and I got him July 2013. I also needed gloves with him and his brother. Time may sweeten his disposition...but then again....
