Default advice on getting 2 female 'russian' hamsters

hi guys.....

there are 2 'Russian' hamsters that are going to be ready on the 12th october.

there are 2 females that are available and i said that i would like a female.

the reply i got is will you be having both as they are happier living as pairs and would rather sell them that way.

i would gladly have the 2 the only thing I'm worried about is are they going to fight and i have to separate.

my 2 Chinese males i had to separate which did feel awful about.

if i take the 2 am i going to have 2 have 2 wheels, houses, bottles and scatter feed like i did the Chinese to minimize fighting?

thanks everyone xxxx

Yeah, it'll be the same routine to try and prevent fights but there is still a risk they'll need separation.
We had four female hybrids living together and they stayed together until after their first birthday. Then we had to split to two pairs... Now we have two alone and two together.

There's a chance it'd work out well, but there's also a chance it won't I'm afraid

It`s nice that the person offering the hamsters for sale is aware that they can live happily in pairs and would like to see them stay as a sibling pair, but if they are not prepared to let you have a single hamster if that`s what you really want to have due to the concequences pairings can sometimes have, I would look elsewhere for a rescue who is already on his/her own. It`s all very well them saying you must buy two, but unless the person taking the hamsters on has the time and the space to prepare for split-up`s, it`s not worth the hassle.
