Default ferplast duna multy

hi people

i am new to the forum. i have joined as i am going to be getting a hamster in the nex few months and im just educating myself as best i can.

i am getting syrian hamster and i am currently looking at cages. i really like the ferplast duna multy and was wondering is this suitable for a syrian.(it states its suitable for hamsters and guinea pigs but no way is it suitable for a guinea pig).

i am going to use megazorb as bedding. i am thinking about what wheel to get and also what exercise ball to get. Anyones help would be grately appreciated.

thanks everyone.

Hiya welcome to the forum
The duna multy is agreat cage for a syrian, lots of people on here will reccommend it and i'm sure a few people can show you their set ups.
megazrob is a good choice too, thats what i use and many others!

Whatever wheel you get it should be 8" diameter, some good wheels include:
the wodent wheel, karlie wonderland wheel and the comfort wheel (also known as the willy wheel XD)
I don't use an exercise ball for my syrian, so someone else should hopefully help you on that part x

Welcome to HC

I recently got a new syrian and a duna multy,

I really recommend it, it's really easy to clean (top just comes off with 2 secure clips) and if you're getting a new hamster it's really easy to get the hamster out as there's a big door on the top for easy access.
Along with that there's plenty of space to customize the inside with. For ideas, I've added a platform with steps (a trixie guinea pig shelter) and a seesaw, the wheel, and two 'caves' for him to hide in.

Incase it didn't look like it in the picture, the cage has a hole for a water bottle. But if you're getting a baby you might have to put a step underneath it for a while as it's quite high up.

Overall I'd really recommend it, but I've only ever used rotastak cages before so it's hardly any competition.

I use megazorb too, think it's great. If you could I'd suggest getting a hold of a wodent wheel, or another wheel that's atleast 8" in diameter, I've heard people mention comfort wheels. I made the mistake of thinking a medium silent spinner (6") would be big enough and he's a bit cramped, thankfully got a wodent wheel on the way.

Here's a link Dora posted a week or so ago to a site that ships wodent wheels - if nowhere is in stock : https://ssl.perfora.net/secure.exerc...om/Europe.html

Not sure on make of hamster exercise ball, I just got a large enough one from my local pet store.

Hope this is of a little help! x

Hi and welcome to HC! All my three are in a Duna Multy each and I (and hopefully they!) love them. Here is one of my set ups. I have an 8" wodent wheel junior in each cage and they all have a Sure Pet or Savic exercise ball. Hope that helps

Hi,

good on you for doing your research

I have heard good reviews for the duna multy it is a good size for a syrian, they like to climb so provide something insde the cage to stimulate them.

Megazorb is meant to be one of the best beddings i use carefresh at the moment for our robs but will be ordering megazorb as its smaller and cheaper

as for the wheel i would recommend a 6 inch silent spinner

Hi welcome to HC - it's good you are researching first as there is so much to choose from it can be confusing! The multy is a good cage (I had it for my first hamster); brilliant for cleaning and good if you have other pets eg cats which might pester your ham. It's good if there is a risk of draughts too, but if your cage will be in a warm or sunny room it might get too hot, and you might want to consider a cage with bars (have a look at the Ferplast Cricketi 15; similar size to the multy and also a really nice cage). Have a look in the "housing" section for cage reviews; both of these cages are in there with lots more detailed info and pics of setups.

As for wheels, I think the wodent wheels are great; 8" is good for a syrian, it avoids the back-bending which is bad for their spine, and also reduces the risk of long hair catching on the spindle and pulling out (ouch!).

Good luck with your shopping; let us know what you decide, and when you get a new furry moving in! And if you have any more dilemmas, there's always someone on here willing to offer an opinion, so just ask

Balltime is fine, although some hamsters don't like it.
My syrian personally gets floortime instead cause he doesn't like balltime.
As long as you give them breaks every 15-20minutes for food, water and potty then you can put them back in if they still want to play
