Default Is there anything else i should put in my hamsters cage?

Hi guys and gals,

This is my dwarf hamsters cages at the moment (not sure if he is winter white or cambells, and he is hiding so I can't check.)

I know crittertrails are generally hated, but i had already bought one before i read the bad reviews. (Funny how they are recomended by pet shops though!!!)

I have changed the water bottle as i didn't like it, added the snap-on wheel so he has more room to run, and the extra cage.

At the moment he wakes up at 10pm, plays for half an hour, then seems to go to sleep in one of his wheels. I've only had him a few months, so he shouldn't be that old, and he gets handled daily and comes out of his cage to play.

Is there anything else you would add to stimulate him and keep him happy?

Thanks in advance.

p.s hope the pictures are clear and have uploaded properly.

I see that you have made a ramp and a level in the crittertrail 1 and a little house in the other. They are fab! You could add a sand bath - dwarfs go mad for them, and it helps to keep their coat in good condititon. You could use a small tupperware box or a large food bowl and fill with Chinchilla sand (not dust as this is very hamful to them and can cause lung and breathing problems), or childs play sand is safe for them too. They will love to dig and roll about in it - you could even try hiding some treats in there for them to find.

i second the above ^^^
Climbing toys like hammocks, stick ladders and climbing frames go down well!

My dwarf adores his sandbath. He doesn't like it when I take it out so I can clean his cage. I use childs play sand - £3.99 for a huuuuge bag in argos.
