Default my gang's cages (pics)

Just had a bit of a photo session of all my cage set-ups, just thought I'd share. We all live in one room, my furry little monsters have kinda taken over!

This is almost everybody against one wall....

Shirley & Lola's tank

Dexter & George's cage (the rats.....they're honorary hammies!)

Toby lives on top of the bookcase, Pippin lives on the middle shelf!

And that's Hazel's cage at the end

A closer pic of Hazel and all her millions of things I try to keep her occupied with....she is SUCH an active inquisitive hamster. There's the fatty, waiting by her food bowl!

And not forgetting Merry on the other side of the room...

That's everyone!

Really cool set up you have for your fuzzies.

I like how you have things hanging up in Hazel's cage for her to play with. I have thought about doing that myself for my hams. I've even picked up those rope chew toys for dogs and thought about hanging one. But then I've worried about ingested rope pieces. Do you use anything special for her? It's hard to make out what all you have there.

The big hanging thing in the middle is a coconut bird house from Wilkos (a cheap chain store here in the UK) - I don't know what it's actually menat for, but I picked it up thinking one of the small furries might like it! Hazel is so active I really try hard to keep her stimulated, I change things about in her cage a few times a week. Its very difficult for her to get to that coconut thing hung in the middle of her cage, she can only just about squeeze in & turn around. I hide treats for her in there sometimes, or its just something to chew/knock at whilst she's climbing around.

The other hanging thing is a ladder sold for small rodents - I think it's by Supreme, they do a smaller version which I have and a larger one. It's a wooden ladder with various ropey things hung from plastic hooks. I do keep an eye on it - if something disappears (like one of the ropes did!) I go and fish it out of her bed/food store as soon as I notice.

I've had a hammock for a hamster before as well, and that hamster didn't chew it at all, so no worries about ingesting things.

I think it's key that you know your individual animal - whether they climb a lot or not - if not then hanging things are pointless anyway. Whether they chew a lot - if they do, then I feel I have to be more careful, but with my less chewy animals I worry less.

Looks great. How do you sleep with all the wheels and animals scraping about! Must be ear plugs for you Emma.

I actually hardly ever notice them when going to sleep now! Last night I was having trouble sleeping (exam worries!), my boyfriend was snoring away - they obviously don't bother him! - I was listening to the swishing of the wheels, it's actually quite a comforting sound to me now as I'm so used to it. Silent spinners & savic jumbo rollys are definitely the best wheels ever - no squeaking, just a soft swishing noise.

Yeah I love the swish and if they go quiet for too long during the night I can often be found getting up to check on them - silence wakes me up for some reason!

Wow, you certainly have a mini petting zoo there. I was considering getting a black syrian and two robos, and I thought I was being greedy. LOL. Anyway, I think I'll stick to the two robos.

Smashing pics. I don't know how to do that yet. Is it cut and past in between the image buttons?
