Default Bedding - paper pulp?

can I use ordinary shredded paper as a bedding for hammys or would something like Pet's preference - soft - a kind of a paper pulp be O.K?

I would use the one for pets myself. Ordinary paper can be a bit hard and the ink, if it is printed, is not ideal for hams if the eat it or get it wet and it stains the coat.

I made the mistake of using printed on paper, i had no clue it would be a problem as i used to use it occasionally with my rabbits and had no problems, but where hamsters pouch alot of bedding if they keep it in their pouches for too long they can get ink poisoning which one of my hamsters did, while she was pregnant, it had a bad affect on her litter and i had to take mum and babies to the vets, luckily mum is now OK, but unfortunately most of her babies died and i ended up having to hand raise some from the age of 10 days due to mum then rejecting the babies, all but one died and she has had her problems including a little stress related hair loss and being very small, she is getting better now though, she is 4 weeks old, and is eating like a horse, lol and her hair is now growing back. I am not saying that everyone would end up with this problem, but i know i will stay away from shredded, printed paper in future. Better to be safe than sorry i say, i now stick to shredding up unscented kitchen roll. they seem to love that.
