Habitrail
Is habitrail ovo safe for hamster? It only has small holes for air to flow.
And do hamsters like bigger cages with lots of tubes, or it would get them stressed out?
Of course it's beautiful in our eyes, but for our sweet babies, is that okay with them?
Thanks

Re: Habitrail
Habitrail ovo is fine if you have quite a few of the larger compartments attached together. A few members who have it will be able to tell you more.
Personally I think it's better for dwarfs and syrians prefer open space wire cages
And a larger Syrian may struggle in the tubes, especially with stuffed cheeks!
But like I said fine with enough compartments, even better if attached
Onto a bin cage or something

Re: Habitrail
I don't really like this cage, lots of people have said it provides poor air flow for the hams. As fluffy said the tubes are rather small too, I'd reccomend a larger cage like the duna multy.

Re: Habitrail
Oh yes forgot to add, for what it costs for a decent set up another bigger cage is more worth it! Like the duna multy yes

Re: Habitrail
I can definitely recommend the Duna Multy. Jesse was in the Duna Fun and even at 12 weeks was struggling in the tubes. Mind you, she never went all the way through, she just tried to turn her wide load round in the middle of the tube

Re: Habitrail
hello I have the habitrail ovo for my chinese dwarf.
I agree it looks cool but if I had to buy my set up again I would probably spend equal on a larger cage like a furplast or gabber. I have two 'pods' set up lots of little areas for my guy and he seems happy enough. There is a lovely review which can reassure you here
You can also read my continuing decisions h ere
really hope that helps

Re: Habitrail
I love the Ovo products but I agree with the other posters, you need to have several living spaces connected together to make it big enough.
also, condensation can be a problem if you don't have air conditioning. in the summer it can get stuffy and in the winter it can fog up, making the bedding damp.
so if you have air conditioning i'd say go for it - if you don't, maybe try getting a Ferplast wire cage which has tube holes for adding on.

Re: Habitrail
In my opinion, I hate the OVO (and all the other habitrail cages). It's absolutely tiny, expensive, cramped, hard to clean, poor ventilation etc. A syrian wouldn't be able to move in there! I've also heard of hamsters getting disorientated because there are no corners.
I would never consider it for any of my hamsters, you get a lot better value for money on more spacious cages. However I think it's OK if you have more than 1 (especially if you add the big one!) and a dwarf hamster (although they can't climb vertical tubes)
The only good thing about it is that it has a decent sized wheel!

Re: Habitrail
Thank you for all the replies! I want to extend her house. But I see now that ovo is too small for a very playful hamster.
I'll see what I can buy for my Kiwi

I do to although when I get a Russian hamster I think I may need to find one of the Habitrail Ovo's, but I already have a small wire cage that is fit for a 5 inch hammy.
