Ignoring the ones that are completely unsuitable, as they are likely the ones most used, you'll probably find that cages such as the Savic Plaza/Plaza XL/Hamster Heaven are the most popular, due being some of the largest commercially bought cages there are. I think many people do make their own cages from IKEA furniture (like the old Detolf) or plastic bin cages.
I imagine that a lot of people will use what is on the shelf in Pets at Home and certainly whenever I've been in and they've sold a hamster, people are usually walking out with a cage off of the shelf too. When my hamsters were still alive, my last couple were in Hamster Heavens but prior to that I had bin cages in a variety of sizes.
