Your cage looks great. As long as everything is a good size, like the wheel, I wouldn't change it.

It can take a while for a hamster to get used to its new home. Most of my previous hamsters settled within two weeks, but my current syrian still occasionally jumps for, as far as I can tell, no real reason, and I've had him for almost two months. Last week, he was even scared of my other hamster running in his wheel. =D But now I can at least pick him up most of the time without him squirming. Some hamsters can take months to become fully accepting of their human.

I would suggest reading the various threads here about taming hamsters. Once your little one has settled in more, you should see some progress towards taming.
