Post Building enclosure

Hello!
I just got a hamster from a friend who couldn't take care of it anymore so I'm quite new to this. I have a siberian little hammy friend, who I've noticed has been pretty stressed and after reading some posts on here I realized her cage is too small. I decided to start building my own enclosure for her but I'm not sure how tall it should be, right now I've made it 100cmx32cm, but only 26cm tall. Should i make it taller? Also wondering if I can use something like mesh wire or will she be able to bite through it? Thanks in advance )

Default Re: Building enclosure

Dwarf hamsters require a wheel that's around 20cm. Add in the stand, and there wont be room for it and the roughly 15cm deep substrate that hamsters prefer. So, yes, try to make it taller if you can. =)

Mesh wire should be fine, assuming you mean metal mesh. Just make sure the gaps are no bigger than 1cm, or a particularly stubborn hamster might try to squeeze through.
