What have I done wrong?

Hi Guys, Newbie here but found the forum very useful in research for a new set-up for a Syrian hamster for my daughter. I was going to use a Rotastak cage my mother still has in the loft from when I was a kid in the 90s, but WOW - I see how bad that was now after reading posts here. I since ordered a 1000cm x 50cm x 50cm tank and set up as attached. So, I took my 8 year old to 'pets at home' (UK) and they refused to sell us a hamster due to the tank not having sufficient ventilation despite the whole top being fully vented mesh. Their reason what that this cage would potentially cause wet tail. Very upset daughter but the main think is the enclosure is appropriate. Does anyone know if they have a point here? Also, if the community think this cage is indeed appropriate, then does anyone know any shops/breeders that would sell us a Syrian with this enclosure? I'm based in West Midlands area UK. It's a beautiful set up you have there. I have some in tanks with a full mesh lid and have never had any issues at all.
I would recommend you look for a breeder and get a nice well bred healthy hamster. I'm sure Arundel hamstery may be near you if you look for their facebook page.

Get in touch with breeders via their facebook page or website or email or contact the secretary but check out for any in your part of the world first. It's worth it to get a nice tame hamster that has been raised properly and handled since young.
There is also the Northern Hamster Club who have a list on their website.
