Default Holiday cage

Hi All, I wonder if I could help me. We have a Syrian hamster that my son adores and we have a large cage (that's like a piece of furniture!) for it at home. We are going on various trips this year within the UK and my son would like to take the hamster with us! So, I'm looking for a holiday cage for a syrian. I've seen posts about gabber rex and mini duna. Are these good holiday cages? One week max. Ideally I'm looking for something that is flat pack and easy assembly to maximise space in the car or relatively small but a size he'd be happy in. Any thoughts and suggestions would be most welcome! All the reviws I find online for smaller cages are negative because the comments say they are too small, but this would only be for a week at a time and my son gets him out of the cage as much as possible.

Thank you

It is quite stressful to keep moving cages for a hamster so if at all possible it would be better to leave him at home in a familiar surrounding. Maybe get a pet sitter or friend or family member to come in daily to check, feed and water. In the life of a hamster a week is actually quite a long time. Some would be fine with it but the smaller cage and losing his things and scent would be stressful. On holiday you will also likely be quite busy enjoying yourself so less time to play with him.

Thanks so much for your reply Souffle! I realise that the best option would be to leave him at home in his own cage but unfortunately I have no one to look after him so this is not an option. The other option is that I send him to a friends house, but we'd still need a different cage, hence why we came up with the idea of taking him with us. At least then he wouldn't have strangers looking after him and my son would still play with him a lot, probably more than normal tbh! I was going to put some of his bedding in the new home to help him feel at home and take some of his toys with us obviously. Thanks for your help

would you consider a bin cage? they're very lightweight so they're easy to move around and you can get massive ones that will still be able to fit in a car. I know that mine, which is the size of a 50 gal tank fits easily in our minivan and would probably fit in a smaller car as well. and its super light!
good luck!
