Question A cheap detolf lid

So I was looking into the ikea detolf after being told that two connected ikea samla is a broken floor space. I’ve just convinced my dad that it’s cheaper than two samlas connected together including the tolls etc.But recently I’ve just remembered that we have to build the lid for detolf. Does anyone knows any cheap way to make a lid without power tools?

Thanks for ur time

You can make a tank lid with just a hand saw and a staple gun. Cut the lengths of wood to size, and then staple them at each join with 2-3 staples on each side. This makes a fairly sturdy wooden frame, and then you just need to staple the mesh on.

That seems like a perfect idea!! Thank u for the advices!! Tho one point after check my parents tool box I did find a saw but there’s no staple gun. I was wondering if I could just just a hot glue gun or wood AA glue to stick them together or a staple gun is still the best option?

Glue wouldn't be strong enough unfortunately. It's also best to make the lid in two halves (so two lids essentially) as they will be sturdier than one very long lid.

Kiln-dried whitewood timber is best. You can get it from B&Q or Wickes. Avoid anything with treated or redwood in the name.

I don't put handles on my tank lids but you could glue it. If you can keep it weighted down or clamped together for a few hours while the glue dries, it will probably hold.
