Need some advice on my hamster’s cage

So first of all I’m getting a female Syrian hamster.Long b4 I’ve decided I’ll get her the biggest ikea samla bin.Though after walked into ikea and saw the cage,I think that bin is still a little small for a Syrian.So do any of u have any advices on which bins in the uk is not too gigantic but suitable for a female Syrian ?

hi! from my own research i have not been able to find any suitable bins for female syrians in the uk, although you can combine some. i would recommend looking into a DIY enclosure, such as the ikea pax or detolf. the detolf is a bit narrow which is the only downside. female syrians are notoriously hard to please so with a detolf i would recommend giving her free roam or playpen time whenever you can if she does show signs of stress or restlessness inside her enclosure

have you looked into the the IKEA limnon? you have to buy a few parts but it's a decent sized cage. I'm not sure if it would be what you're looking for price-wise.

Hello!!So I am thinking is a diy enclosure expensive? I don’t have we have all the tools and all the stuffs need to build for one so yea.Is there any slight smaller and wider ikea diy cages? I have the space but I think my mom will moan abt taking too many space for the hamster cage. I am also thinking combining two samlas but what can I use to combine them?srry if I asked too much lol

there are a few DIY connected bin cage tutorials around on youtube and other places so i'd recommend looking those up ikea enclosures are the cheapest DIY enclosures outside of bin cages, however, they can be pricier as you will need to either make or buy a lid

Alr thank u so much for the advices!! I’ve looked into the linnmon cage but I don’t have a jigsaw to cut the wood pieces.Also what cage u use?

Yes, if you connected two bin cages it would be considered broken floor space. I think that it's better than nothing tho.
I have a (almost) 2 year old female dwarf hybrid. rn she lives in a 300 sq. in. bin cage after having lived in a 200 sq. in. cage for about a year. She's been a very happy hammie ever since the transition.
I know that female Syrians are much harder to please. so if getting a large enough enclosure for her is too hard or expensive, getting a male syrian or a dwarf might be something to consider. =)

Tysm for the advices!!Now I’m looking into the detolf but I saw people always put a small cabinet under the detolf so do I have to do that or I can just lay it out on the floor?

i have never had an Ikea detolf, but i know that setting it on the floor could be dangerous. Because if you set it on the floor, only the ends of the shelf would be on the floor making the glass bow and potentially break or crack from the weight of the bedding. I don't know if I would be willing to risk that, but it's ultimately up to you.
