Older hamster rehomed again
There is a hamster near me, who is rehome. It is 1,5 year ca. The hamster have been rehomed before. He/she have a small cage, but I cant buy it. The hamster is for giving away. I have a hard time to choose if I should take it or not, by knowing that the cage will be sold to someone else. What do you think?

If you can afford to care for the hamster and have the space then I would take them. At least you will know the hamster will be cared for very well if they are with you.

Re: Older hamster rehomed again
Why are you unsure?
If there is a good reason like no space, no money for a vet if needed or you feel that you would over commit yourself, time or moneywise, then you have to walk away.
Sadly, we can't save them all.

Re: Older hamster rehomed again
Is it that you think it could be hard not having them long with the hamster being old? Or just that you’re worried you’ve got enough already?
If he’s in a small cage I think he’d be perfectly happy in a Hamster Heaven but also in a 100cm cage with no levels (or only a very low one). And could have another 9 months and a burst of happy life on a better environment.
It would probably be a good idea though to put the smaller cage as it is, inside the new larger one for a week or so and let him venture out from there and adjust to the bigger cage. That works quite well.
I think of course you should get him - I’m guessing you’re worrying about taking on another one that you won’t be rehoming. He probably does need to stay out his life in one place now.
If it’s a choice between getting him and rehoming him or letting him go somewhere else I can see the dilemma. I think you should get him and keep him - if you can.

The thing that bothered me was that the previous home is the 2nd. I did pick the hamster up and he/she are gonna live here for the rest of the life.

Re: Older hamster rehomed again
You guys are sweet, thank you
I`m sad for the little one who have gotten a wound at her nose from bar chewing. Its not okay that the owners havent done anything about it. Just needed to say it.
I have a duna maxi multy I`m gonna move her in to.

Re: Older hamster rehomed again
That sounds perfect I think the maxi duna multy would be just right for an older hamster. Plenty of floor space and not too high. Plenty of scope for enrichment too. I'm sure the nose wound will heal up soon. Good move As she's a female I'd chuck lots of cardboard toys in - egg boxes and cardboard tubes and hides - in case she likes ripping things up! And a good house and she'll be happy. And maybe a low level platform?
