The Plaza is 100cm x 50cm so a bit bigger floorspace than the Hamster Heaven. But still has the big front door.

Awesome thanks!
I seem to remember many years ago getting a shelf similar to one that comes with the Plaza, only more sturdy looking and less holes. I just don't remember where as I'm sure it was around 12 years ago!
I'm not usually a big fan of P@H, however the fact they have both the Plaza and Hamster Heaven and deliver could be good. Also their website seems to have quite a few nice, good quality looking items on it!
Just realized there's an independent pet store in my area that many, many years ago sold decent sized cages. Might pop in there too and see what they have!

They have improved in their choice of cages in stock, and to be honest there has been very little choice elsewhere since the pandemic and brexit. Needs must! None of the Skyline cages are available any more (Barney and Alexander) and very few 100cm cages apart from the Plaza. There are others but they all have small doors.

I've just found this one om Ebay. Is the cage suitable? Obviously the accessories aren't and I wouldn't use them, but wasn't sure about the cage. Also is the bar spacing suitable for a possible future deraf hamster?

There are a lot of good cages on Gumtree just now. I bought all mine second hand when i was rescuing.

Did you have a look at the thread "Let's see your cages"? There are a few Plazas on there.

Happy Henry's Homes is a website worth having a look for houses etc. I use the inexpensive Ferplast sin guinea pig size houses myself.

The Ritz you've linked there on ebay is from Little Petwarehouse. It's ok - but it only has the small front door - and only two small doors on top. So a lot would depend on how gregarious the hamster was. It would be very difficult to get a hamster out without taking the whole bars off, if it was a shy hamster. And you'd have to take the bars off to take any larger items in or out as well. If it had different doors it would be a better cage.

There's also one on ebay called the Volta - it's the same cage but different accessories. Thing is that is more expensive than the Plaza! Which is usually about £75.

There's only PAH and Amazon that sell the Plaza I think and it costs a lot more on Amazon.

If you were going to get a dwarf hamster, I'd get the Hamster Heaven. A syrian, I'd get a 100cm cage. The only other 100cm cage I know of (apart from the Ritz, Volta and Plaza) is the Ferplast Criceti 100 - which is also deeper. But costs twice as much. Top opening only. You might find a second hand Barney cage on ebay if you're lucky!

PetsCorner is an expensive petshop. I was in one the other day and wondering where they get their prices from. The Criceti 100 may be cheaper elsewhere. That cage would be a good option though.

Thanks for that tip Ria. I didn't know they were an expensive site. It seems that cage is very hard to find to buy. You can actually buy it direct from Ferplast - where it costs even more! And has just gone up recently. Last time I looked it was about £135 - now they're charging £164! Which is outrageous for a barred cage. Actually - my mistake it's 164 euros not pounds - but that's still about £143.

This is the volta cage. I think the accessories are better. It actually comes with a built in house that doubles up as a shelf. And actually it might not be so bad with the smaller doors as it's lower than the Plaza so the bar top might not be too cumbersome to take off and easier to lower something through the top.

I was in two minds whether to get that or another Plaza last time. Plaza is cheaper though - but then you need a house ..........
