I have rehomed hamsters into that cage. It's a good cage for a dwarf.

Re: Duna maxi multy
I haven't had one. I love the look of it and idea of it. As Ria says it's good for a dwarf hamster. It is top opening and some hamsters don't like a hand from above. But it's a very large top opening and the cage isn't too tall so you could probably get your arm in at an angle so it's not like a hand from above.
It could be tricky to set up for a Syrian due to the height and it not being easy to fit shelves or platforms. It will fit a 28cm wheel in the centre, but not a 12" one.
I have seen a lovely set up in one for a Syrian - a natural set up - but it's too easy for people to not give quite enough enrichment in that cage due to no bars to attach shelves to or hanging items. So it needs a bit of thought and creativity.
I would say a freestanding platform is a must in there - but the cage has curved edges so it could be tricky to fit in - again a bit of creativity needed there. And instead of roof hanging toys - some taller floor toys to give some overhead cover. Although I have seen a rat sputnik hung from the top door/bars. You can only put it in one area - so the sputnik comes out when the door is opened (making sure the hamster isn't in the sputnik at the time!).
But it's a lovely looking 100cm tank style cage, much lighter and easier to move than a glass tank. Needs a lot of floor toys and enrichment.

Re: Duna maxi multy
Agree with above. It is 750sq inches, good for a dwarf or ageing hammy. Though quite expensive. You could do an Ikea DIY for much less and much larger space. A syrian could be happy in there *if* you added a bunch of enrichment, however the height is quite small in general and probably too small to fit this enrichment in for a Syrian. If i’ve found the right cage the height is 36cm. An adequate sized wheel (28cm) will fit if you place it flat on the bottom but then that removes burrowing space, and that space is already limited due to the small bottom tray. You would have to add wooden inserts/ dividers around the sides to bring bedding levels up, but then that leaves hardly any room above for enrichment (14.2-6inch of bedding leaves 8.2 inches available for toys.). You could try make it work but it’s expensive for what it is. I guess you could give it a go, or see how others have set it up? A shame the height is so small, would be a good commercial cage otherwise as it is very pretty. If this is the only cage available to you go for it however. It is so much better than most other cages on the market.

This is the natural set up for a Syrian hamster I mentioned. No platform but lots of enrichment.
Obi's natural set up is complete!
This thread shows another set up for a Syrian - which has quite a lot of enrichment but could do with a platform (some overhead cover).
Maxi Duna Multy Has Arrived!

Agree - wheel placement can be an issue. On the natural set up above, Lisa had the wheel at one end as a sand area and a deeper two thirds at the other end. Or you can "fence in" the wheel if it's central and have deeper substrate the other side of the fence. I definitely think that cage needs a platform for overhead cover (or large cork logs at least).

Definitely correct, even more so than the bedding issue is the platform issue with the height of the cage and lack of being able to add lots of cubby holes and areas for them to hide away into/under. The confidence change you’ll have in a hamster is worth doing anything for. Definitely leans to being more suitable for a dwarf in other aspects away from smaller floor space.

Re: Duna maxi multy
Agree - and once you have split levels it kind of reduces the floor area somewhat as well - as in one level floor area. At one time it was one of the few 100cm cages available - there was just that, the Zoozone II and the Alexander cage. Then the Mamble came along but that was a bit too tall and had small doors. Then the 100cm Barney came along. And now the Alexander and Barney are no longer available! So really there is only the Savic Plaza, Marrakesch and Maxi duna available (plus the Ritz from Little Pet warehouse).

Re: Duna maxi multy
She lives in aquarium now, but because of the heat in the floor at the winter, I need to have a cage I can have at a table. The aquarium is to heavy for that. The barney cage is available here in norway.
I`m not a diy person :P As I look at it, duna maxu multy or the barney cage are the two alternatives I have.

If it's for a dwarf hamster (is it?) I would go with the Maxi duna multy. If it's for a Syrian I would go with the Barney.
You don't need to do diy for platforms. Can you get things from Getzoo in Germany? They do some great platforms. Alternatively this is a fairly good option from Amazon. It's a bit high for a dwarf hamster so you'd need deeper substrate in the platform area and a stable route up to the platform - you could have the house next to it for example, as a step up, then a bendy bridge on top of the house.
Assuming it's a maxi duna for a dwarf (the barney already has a shelf). The Barney is very tall for a dwarf hamster if you aren't wanting to do any diy.
I'd recommend a labyrinth house as well - plenty of space for a large house and the hamster will feel more secure as it's dark inside.

Incidentally - where do you find the Barney cage available? It's not available in the Uk any more on Zooplus (or even on the German Zooplus site) - I assumed they were no longer in production but maybe they are only selling in certain countries?
