Ok - so have I got this right?

You have a dwarf in a tank you're going to move into a maxi duna multy. And you have a Syrian coming back in a maxi duna you're going to move into a cage with doors at the front. So which cage will the Syrian go in?

I know you're not keen on the Plaza and the Barney might not be right if he's shy and it has small front doors - although might work. Hamster Heaven would be a downgrade but he might be ok in it at first.

I might just buy a duna maxi multy for the dwarf, and let the syrian live in his cage. But it depends on how he is forward. If he still is shy, I have to look at another cage.

Is this okay to use?

Keep in mind that some hamsters prefer their own company and don't want much contact with humans. It could be his personality wich a different cage wouldn't change.

I'd wait and see first.

Yes that's the platform I linked before . Do you mean previous owner used a lead to take a hamster for a walk?! Sadly they do sell such things.

Oh, sorry
I`m not sure how to read the message I got from her. The hamster arrives next week, so I`m shopping for him and my other hammys.

I have a cupon, maybe I just buy the barney cage, the prize is about 124,84 euro I think.

Is it more difficult to pick out toys and things to a syrian living in a duna/can I make his life more creative in the barney?

It depends on the Syrian.
If he's a burrower then the Duna would be better suited. You can still create levels with free standing platforms etc

If he likes heights and to sit on top of shelves, or enjoys sputniks and suspended tunnels, top runs etc then the Barney would be better.

I think the Barney would be a lot easier and give more enrichment for a Syrian - the floorspace is bigger and it already comes with a good shelf and a decent house. The bar spacing is narrow so you don’t need to worry about bedding falling out through the bars and can even have it piled up against the bars if wanting it deeper in some areas.

So you’d just need a few floor toys - tunnels and hidey places. Some hamsters can be a bit nervous of all the space above so hanging rat sputniks are good for that - it’s overhead cover so they feel more secure.

If you hang it next to the shelf they can climb into the Sputnik easily.

So yes I’d get the Barney- it’s a good cage and easier to set up. Fill the base with substrate to the top. If the Syrian is a bit shy about coming out you could lower a tube down through the top door and let him walk into a tube to come out. You do need to use the top door in it fairly often so it’s best not to have that cage on top of anything too tall (or it’s hard to get into the top unless you’re 6 feet tall!). Mine used to be on a low table but I have had it on top of a kallax before and that was manageable. It’s almost 2” deeper (back to front) than most 100cm cages so gives a lot of scope for floor toys. I used to find a large cork log worked well as a floor toy plus a coconut hut.
