So it is - and also the Skyline Hoppelgarten! Which is a fantastic cage (very large and still with height issues for a dwarf).

So if they can sell skyline cages in Norway, why can't they do it in Germany and the Uk? Shows they are still producing cages though - unless those are old stock or something.

Yes if it's for a dwarf I'd go with a maxi duna, a platform, a labyrinth house and plenty of floor toys - tunnels and hidey houses etc.

How very strange that the Barney and Hoppelgarten are available in Norway! I just had a look as well.

I wonder if they are available in other Scandinavien countries.

Which country did Zooplus originate in? Is Getzoo a sister company?

It is very expensive, the skyline hoppelgarten.
I have used a house as platform in the aquarium. Have you asked zooplus why they dont sell the cage in uk?

Actually I have just emailed Skyline (who make the Barney and Hoppelgarten) - which is a German company so goodness knows why Zooplus Germany don't sell it any more. I just emailed them to ask why it's not available via Zooplus in Germany or the Uk any more when it's available in Norway and asked if it will be available again soon.

I suspect Zooplus will say the same as another cage seller I contacted in Germany - that the Uk customs restrictions are now too time consuming and expensive since Brexit for it to be worth their while.

And the Barney is now showing on zooplus in Germany as well along with the Hoppelgarten and a 120cm version of the Marrakesch!

You used to be able to buy from Zooplus.de and get it shipped to the Uk - I'm going to try that and see if it works (without actually ordering!).

That 120cm Marrakesch is worth having - it's only ever been available in Germany - used to be on German amazon. If you like tank style cages that is.

Hamsterkafig & Nagarium gunstig kaufen | zooplus

Actually the Barney is showing but not yet available - says it's back ordered.

The Marrakesch 120 is also showing as back ordered. The Hoppelgarten is in stock - when I put it in my basket for checkout it came up with unfortunately not able to deliver to your address (ie to the Uk). So there's Brexit for you! Grr. And the Hoppelgarten is ridiculously expensive - it used to be about £160 before the pandemic.

What doesn't make sense is the Skyline Leon says the same on Amazon.de - can't be shipped to your address. But it's available on the Uk website! Which suggests it's made in the Uk, not germany. And the Marrakesch 100 is available in the Uk too (but not the 120). All very annoying. The prices are way higher than pre pandemic. Even the Leon is about £90 (used to be £65) and it's too small for hamsters! Possibly ok for a dwarf but the base is on the small side.

Sorry Rashy - hijacking your thread a bit.

Haha, its okay.
I have a hard time choosing, but the barney cage is actually easier for me to get a hold on as I dont drive.

The pandemic have pushed the price up at a lot of things. I feel so stupid as I did throw the bottom frame there belonged to the aquarium away, I did not know what is were for.

Would it not be easier to get a base for the aquarium? All aquariums sit on top of something and water is probably heavier than a hamster habitat.

That should be ok. I'd enquire at an aquarium shop or website to see what would be suitable.

You can buy slightly cheaper aquarium stands made of MDF. I had one for a 60cm tank I used to have (it was for a beta fish).

You could get something cheap from Ikea - any kind of cabinet or table or even a kallax unit. But I think the main thing is the weight of the aquarium isn't it? If the Barney is easier to get, it could make a good cage for a dwarf hamster but you need to reduce the height. The easiest way (and it's not diy exactly but does involve some hassle) is to put about 8" of cardboard round the inside bars (fix it on with cable ties) and have very deep bedding up to about 10" - which effectively reduces the height of the cage by about 4". The downside to that is, if you take the cage top off, the bedding all falls out.

Having had the Barney I can say it is incredibly difficult and cumbersome to take the cage bar top off anyway - as it's so deep as well as wide and so I never used to do that but used the top door for spot clean etc - and only took the top off if I was doing a big cage clean (which was very rarely).

Doesn't look great the cardboard but it's ok. Unless you have a hamster that chews all the cardboard away as my syrian did! But I've never had that happened before and I think a dwarf hamster is unlikely to do that. That alternative is perspex which then gets expensive and does involve diy.

It would have advantages over the tank in that it still has top opening but also has a couple of small front doors.
